STEREOTYPICAL SOCIAL GROUPS In our film the main character is a fairly young male, to achieve the final outcome that we wanted we had to represent him in two ways. Firstly the audience will view him as a stereotypical, everyday teacher that enjoys his job. As our OTS progresses the audience will begin to see how Professor Sloggett is far from the average teacher, infact the audience begin to fear him and his strange hobbies. At the start of the clip he is seen to be wearing his usual scientific school uniform, smart trousers and a lab coat, this is a typical look for a biologists, we also made sure that within the shots you could see the large amount of clutter, this makes the audience that work in a similar profession relate to him and his busy schedule. The fast cutting close up shots and the point of view shots help to develop the idea that he is very stereotypical and has a very hectic mind, with something bothering him.

CANNIBALS

Cannibals are represented through our opening title sequence. This is a convention of thrillers. To show this we used hard cuts and fast editing to show that he has a secret and something to hide from his normal life. It also represents the way that he thinks, he has a hectic lifestyle and busy schedule which can be seen through the use of a lot of different shots in a short amount of time. This side of the professor can be related to by the audience that have committed a crime or hidden a secret from their peers. We wanted the fast cuts to take over the editing, we will also pair this editing with tense, pulsating music to suggest that something is playing on his mind. This shows a typical antagonist character as he is panicking in a usually calm environment.

In order to show contrast between his two personalities, when he arrives home we staged it so that he removes his tie and enters his eerie, dark lit shed, the music also changed to something calmer. This shows how when he is in his own environment he feels comfortable, this represents the social group of people that only feel comfort in their own home, this can show a lack of social skills and happiness.

Professor Sloggett represents a typical middle class, male social group. However the second side to him that is not seen by anybody else is that of a very disturbing, previously bullied criminal. At first it is unclear why is reflective of his type of social group until he brings out the camera. Taking a picture of a girl walking is a stereotypical connotation of a stalker-like character. He is detatched from the outside world because he is scared of anyone finding out his secrets. In our opening title sequence we wanted to portray him in this way as we are basing our character around Jeffrey Dahmer.

Overall we have represented the male character in a very negative light. However we have kept some parts of him stereotypical teacher in order to not let him stand out, instead we represented him badly through editing and facial expressions throughout the clip.

YOUNG ADULTS

As well as this social group, another key social group within our clip is older teenagers. Within our clip there is a typical, inlove couple that are dressed as casual sixth formers. The girl wears light clothing in order to show innocence and vuneribility. Her long blonde hair also creates a stereotypical view on her that the audience will easily be able to relate to and understand. The way that she walks through a crowd of students with her boyfriend, this depicts a stereotypical young romance between the pair. As the female has no clue about the teachers second self it creates a sense of vuneribilty and makes the audience empathise with her, the boy also has no clue about whats happening and therefore he cannot protect her.
