What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?Question 6

Softwares that I used during this task were...

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator

I used InDesign mostly as this is where I made the skeleton for my magazine and placed any work I had done on Photoshop on Illustrator to. Before this task I had used InDesign in my preliminary however I was still learning how to do the basics on this software since finishing my main task I feel I have developed a lot since the preliminary.

Skills that I learnt during this task:

How to set up my layout•Creating the skeleton for my magazine was very

important as it would determine where my headlines, titles, body copy and furniture would sit. I wanted my magazine to have 3 columns I felt that this was appropriate as it allowed me to have room for images and text without the magazine becoming overcrowded and threatening to my audience.

Editing my Photographs• From the outset of this task I had a clear vision

of how I wanted my photographs to look, however the photographs that I took didn’t have the bright, intense lighting that I wanted to have for my magazine. I had used photoshop before however not edited the lighting of a photograph. Looking at the options I found that using the 'quick select' tool I could select the background of my image and increase the vibrance making the image appear to have a studio backdrop of white. I was really impressed with the effect this gave my image.

Editing Photographs•Once I had finished editing the background of

my image I needed to focus on my model, I added some touch ups to his appearance using the 'spot healing' tool to remove any blemishes of his face as this is apart of the 'gaze theory' and making my model attractive and appear flawless was important. As I had a image that I was using for a reference I knew that I needed to make my model look as if there was bright studio lighting flashed onto his face which was difficult to do as I didn't take the photography in a studio, however I found that increasing the contrast made him appear this way and this is another skill I developed in this project.

Photoshopping my Title •A skill that I thought was very useful that I

learnt was the editing I had on my title. This was created in Photoshop then placed into InDesign as InDesign didn't have the tools I needed. I took the image for my front cover and duplicated it twice, then in between the players I placed my title making sure I had it aligned with my margins on InDesign whilst in photoshop. I began to erase the areas which fitted around my key image making sure it didn't block his face or any part of my model. This created the illusion that my text was behind him but in front of the background.

This video explains how I edited my text behind my photograph in Photoshop. A skill which I found very useful in this project.

From constructing this project...I feel more confident in using photoshop and InDesign as I feel I have learnt many new skills that will help me develop my media work further in the forthcoming projects.
