NME

NME is the acronym for National Music Express. This has been wrote in this way as it

wold help to appeal ore to the younger generation as they use slang when writing and acronyms are a form of slang, this has

been done to appeal to the younger generation because this magazine focuses on

new artists and music who are primarily listened by the younger people. By using

acronyms, the name is easier to remember than its original name.

Kerrang!

The name “Kerrang!” does not exist because the magazine has made it up, therefore

whenever one hears the word “Kerrang!”, it is instantly associated with the rock genre

music magazine. This is effective in establishing their selves in the magazine

world because they are not associated with anything else and are completed individuals,

like the audience they are trying to attract. As well as this, the word sounds like a crashing

of a symbol on a drum set. This is a traditional rock music instrumental that is also connoted of being loud. These elements all portray the

genre of rock content of the magazine.

We Love Pop.

The name fully conveys the pop genre of the magazine, not only by referring to the genre

“POP” but also because of the pink heart. They have used the symbol instead of using

the word “love” which makes the name more short and snappy and appeal to a younger,

faster audience. The word “we” is very inclusive which attracts the reader in

following the Uses and Gratifications Theory that people use media texts to feel a sense of belonging. By saying “we”, the readers feel

they can share their opinions with others who feel the same.

Top of the Pop

The name sounds rhythmical because the words “top” and

“pop” rhyme, which reinforces the music content of the

magazine. The reference to “top” appeals to the aspirer sub-

target demographic that pop magazines appeal too. The word

has connotations of being the ‘best of the best’ which conveys an element of superiority to the magazine and suggests that this pop magazine is better than any

other ones on offer.
