On my magazine cover I intend to have an image of the (main) artist raising one of their eyebrows and looking inquisitive and a tad suggestive. I could not find any examples of this from previous music magazines (or any magazine for that matter) and this, I hope, means I have found something that will be different, quirky and therefore immediately more appealing to my target audience than anything else.

This first example is how I want to overlap the image onto both pages of the double page spread. I want my image to be slightly like this except with a female artist draped over records, CDs and instruments. Also, the grey-ish background is one I am going to adopt to ensure a focus on the artist in the image – who both contrasts and compliments the background through her black-coloured costume.

This second example of an image overlapping the pages in a double page spread is what I would like to experiment with.

Page 4: Extension of Photography Plan Presentation.docx

In these double page spread examples, there are two images of the artist – a large one and a smaller one (with a background). I wish to do this in my double page spread except with a long shot of my artist as the second, smaller, image.

This close up image of the artist, with their hand filling up the frame, is the kind of shot I wish to achieve for my magazine cover except my artist is going to look inquisitive, provocative and wearing a pirate hat. I am considering laying her on the floor and having her hair splayed out slightly so that it still fills the shot but is more messy and creative that way (a little like the cover in the top right corner).

These slanted images are what I want to do in my contents page to make the page look more appealing, creative and edgy. Also, the image under the features is where I am aiming to put another image of an artist mentioned in the contents list.

In this contents page there is a long shot (with a slight low angle) of a band stood on a hill and you can see the ground underneath them. I am planning on taking a shot like this to put in my contents page but of the female artist on my cover, standing on a cliff. The image below the main image is an artist leaning against an ancient column. I am planning to take a photograph like this one of a male artist in my contents list leaning against a tree in a nature reserve.

I am going to experiment with my images by putting the artists in different positions. I will experiment with the female artist by taking a photo of her looking over her shoulder to make her look more feminine. I will also experiment with naturalistic images – I will do this by talking to the artists and, that way, making them look more natural (i.e. The double page spread to the right contains lots of natural photos of artists on stage and unaware of a camera pointing at them).

On my magazine cover, the female artist will have wet/damp hair (to link to the pirate hat she’ll be wearing) and also to make her look more provocative and appealing like Cheryl Cole in this music magazine. She will also be wearing dark (black) clothing, like this artist (above and left), to make her look dangerous, confident and edgy which is also appealing to the target audience of males. The low angle is also a technique I will adopt from this to make my female artist look powerful and subvert the male power fantasy.

The artists confident stance is appealing to the target audience and the body language I intend to use in my double page spread.

In these double page spreads from music magazines, the female artists have their hands on their hips. In my double page spread I wish to have my female artist with her hands on her hips to make her look more sassy, confident and appealing to the target audience through subverting the male power fantasy.

This low angle is the kind of thing I am hoping to recreate for my magazine. Also, the image to the left has inspired me to do something like it has –tipping the hat over one eye – this creates mystery and tension and invites the audience to discover more about the artist/person and so, I think, would appeal to my target audience effectively. The image in the top right corner is sort of what I want to do for my double oage spread image. I want it to be black and white and to have a retro 80s feel to it (which I think will be achieved through a black and white image) and also the woman is off centre which makes the image more appealing and interesting to look at which is something I will try to use for my double page spread image.
