Fayol was born in 1841 in a suburb of  Istanbul, Ottoman EmpireFayol's work was one of the first comprehensive statements of a general theory of management.

1. DIVISION OF WORK

 Work should be divided among individuals and groups to ensure  that effort and attention are focused on special portions of the task. Fayol presented work specialization as the best way to use the human resources of the organization.

2. AUTHORITY

Managers must have the authority to give orders, but they must also keep in mind that with authority comes responsibility.

3. DISCIPLINE

  Employees must obey and respect the rules that govern the organization. Penalties should be applied judiciously to encourage this common effort.

4. UNITY OF COMMAND

Workers should receive orders from only one manager.

5. UNITY OF DIRECTION

 The entire organization should be moving towards a common objective in a common direction.

6. SUBORDINATION OF INDIVIDUAL INTERESTS TO THE GENERAL INTERESTS

The interests of one person should not take priority over the interests of the organization as a whole.

7. REMUNERATION

Employee satisfaction depends on fair remuneration for everyone. This includes financial and non-financial compensation.

8. CENTRALIZATION

: to bring (things that are in different places) together at a single point or place: to bring (something) under the control of one authority

9. SCALAR CHAIN

 The line of authority from top management to the lowest ranks represents the scalar chain. Communications should follow this chain. However, if following the chain creates delays, cross-communications can be allowed if agreed to by all parties and superiors are kept informed.

10. ORDER

People and materials should be in the right place at the right time.

11. EQUITY

Managers should be kind and fair to their subordinates and All employees should be treated as equally as possible.

12. STABILITY OF TENURE OF PERSONNEL

'STABILITY' means no frequent change, termination and transfer etc. It means that, in an organisation whenever an employee is appointed for a job, he/she shouldn't be removed from that position frequently.

13. INITIATIVE

 Management should take steps to encourage worker initiative, which is defined as new or additional work activity undertaken through self direction.
