FINAL MAKE UP

MAIN ACTOR • My make up was the most important as I was the main character in the video. Therefore,

we worked together to decide on different make up for each scene. I looked at other media texts to get inspiration and I found Rihanna’s album cover for “Loud” and an image on the “popular page” on Instagram -

I thought that her make up choices were really dramatic and they made her stand out, something we wanted me to do in our own video. I discussed this with the rest of my group and they agreed that the red lips and big eyes would be good for the main close ups of our video.

I really liked how different this make up choice was and it was really striking, which made it perfect for a fun music video. I thought this would be good for the ski scenes, as it stood out and looked almost frosty.

WHITE BACKGROUND

As mentioned before, I thought that Rihanna’s “Loud” make up for her album cover was really effective. As this shot was a mid shot, the audience can clearly see my face, which is why the make up was so important. We decided on a Rimmel London “Berry Red” Lipstick because it was a really deep red which stood out against my skin tone. For my eyes, we used a Max Factor “Mass Effect” mascara and some false lashes. As this made my eyes big and bold. For my hair we decided to keep it straight and simple, as the make up itself was so bold.

“BEDROOM SCENES”

For the bedroom scenes, I wanted my make up to be simple as it was to show that the character has been woken up from a sleep. I added a light moisturiser to my face yet took of my previous red lipstick and false eye lashes to make it look more realistic. This simple choice of make up was used to highlight the naturalism of the video. I put my hair into a simple pony tail as we found that that stayed in the longest, whilst still looking realistic.

“LONDON SCENES”

My London make up choices were probably more simple as supposed to the other major scenes. However, this is because we wanted to experiment with my hair more. I did wear false eye lashes again yet for my lips, I decided to have a simple pink shade that wasn’t as striking, yet complemented my skin tone. My hair started out by having curls, as well as the quiff seen in the picture. However, as it was raining of the filming day, the curls gradually came out. I therefore decided to wear it straight, yet add more lift to the quiff to make it more dramatic.

“DRY SKI SLOPE SCENES”

We felt that the dry ski slope scenes would be the hardest to design make up for, as we would be moving at a pace and my face wouldn’t have been seen as much. However, we decided to incorporate glitter into the make up choices, as it gave a really dramatic effect. I mostly added the glitter to my lips, covering them completely which enabled us to take an extreme close up of them, which we used in the final video. We thought that the glitter went well with the ski slope part of the video because when you think of skiing you think of snow, and glitter is usually associated with winter, which we felt enhanced the fun and girly side to the video.

“MUM” For the make up for the “Mum” we wanted it quite simple, she wore mascara to emphasise her important facial expressions. The main part however, was that we asked our actor to wear glasses. We felt this this gave a typical authority figure trait and this, along with her folded arms and angry expression, enabled this character and scene to look more realistic. This is something we needed to achieve as obviously our actor was not old enough to have a teenage daughter, which enhanced the comic effect.

FIRST FRIEND – STEPH

Steph’s make up design was relatively similar to mine in the “London” scenes. She wore striking false eye lashes which made her eyes bigger and dramatic, which is what we wanted to achieve. She wore simple lip gloss on her lips which gave them a subtle shine. For her hair, she wore it curled as we wanted our hair to at first be similar. But as my curls fell out, it was nice to see the contrast of the dramatic curls against the quiff I wore.

SECOND FRIEND - JESS

Jess’ make up was also quite simple. We did this as we wanted the main attention to be on my striking lip make up. She wore her hair down with slight waves to give off a girly vibe in the scene. She then had thick mascara on and foundation, which gave her some colour in contrast to the pale white location choice. We found that the Ski Slope scenes were the hardest to style as we moved around a lot more than the previous scenes shot. However, we were lucky that both mine and jess’ make up stayed on in time to shoot the scene.

This is the before and after shots to show the progression between the make up choices. I applied the make up to all of our actors and thought about each make up choice before finally completing the finished product.
