DISTRACTION During driving distraction comes in many forms:
Eating while Driving
Talking on the phone
Smoking while Driving
Are some of the common reason we come across on
daily basis
Pull over to a safe area to accomplish these
Tasks .
FRUSTRATION
FRUSTRATION and ANGER can cause you to
lose focus. If you feel out of control, take a pause
and count to ten.
FATIGUE Driving continuously could result in
less concentration towards Defensive
Driving principles, especially Long
route professional drivers driving
continuously for hours without breaks
face these problems which results in
fatal accidents.
If you feel drowsy, open a window
or turn on the radio. If necessary,
find a rest stop and take a break.
POOR VEHICLE
CONDITIONS
Trucks require proper maintenance, and mechanical failure (particularly of the brakes) can create a great danger to other drivers. Brakes, truck lights and other safety equipment should be properly maintained and regularly checked. Truckers should always perform a complete pre-trip inspection of their vehicles.
Take Time to Inspect your Vehicle
& Learn how it handles
POOR VEHICLE
CONDITIONS • Check tires for proper
inflation and have
adequate thread.
• Check headlights and
flashers, replace any
burned out bulbs.
POOR VEHICLE
CONDITIONS • On large vehicles
follow the
DOT checklist
Make sure the vehicle has all basic emergency gear
such as fire extinguishers, spare tire, tire iron,
jumper cables, flashlight, warning markers, and road
flares.
Use of Drugs….
Due to the effect of alcohol consumption on driving ability and
driver reaction time, intoxicated drivers are at a significantly
heightened risk of accident, be it a single vehicle accident, or an
accident involving multiple vehicles.
Always inform your supervisor if you are taking
any prescription drug from your doctor, which
may impair your ability to operate a vehicle or do
your job.
