CATHEDRAL. The cathedral beginning by Arnolfo di Cambio in

1296,in the same place where was erect the ancient cathedral of Santa Reparta,whose foundations where bring to the light in recent digs. The work continued with big interruptions,first under the direction of Giotto, between 1334 to 1336,and later of Francesco Talenti and Lapo Ghini.In 1378 was built the central nave,in 1380 the sides and between 1380 and 1421 they built the arms of the transept and the octogonal drum in which is established the dome.Finally, in 1434 Filippo Brunelleschi completed the cathedral crowning with his majestic dome,whose proyect was the cause of a lot of discussions. In 1436 the pope Eugenio IV consacrated,dedicating to “Santa María del Fioire”

“SANTA MARÍA DE FIOIRE” In this monumental work exists some

styles,the romanic elements found with the gothics, while the octogonal dome is the expresion of the Renaissance art.The facade conceive originally in romanesque style by Arnolfo and transformated later in gothic art by F.Talenti,didn´t finish until 1887 and it is the work of Emiliano de Fabris.

THE INTERIOR Strict and majestic,that has the floor of

a latin cross divided into three spacious nave separated for robusts pillars of both styles, in which they support archs and vaults.The magnific paviment was created by Baccio d ´ Agnolo.
