LMS

• Learning management systems are known by various names: (CMS), (LCMS), (VLE), (VLS), learning portal, or e-learning platform.

• LMS supports the development, delivery, assessment, and administration of courses in traditional face-to-face, blended, or online learning environments.

Converting….MOOC

• large-scale interactive participation and open access via the web.

• In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide INTERACTIVE user forums that help build a COMMUNITY for the students and lecturers

So, what’s the problem Ya Akhi?

Believe me I tried hard, but video is not my type. Over 20 years I’ve learnt all I know is reading, surfing, the web, not watching videos.

I’m leaving because I’m not motivated and not engaged.

Typical completion rate hovering below 10%.

WHY?

Open Online Courses

• xMOOC: The most common type of MOOC, organized around a central professor and core curriculum

• cMOOC: “Connectivity” MOOC, resemble graduate seminar courses; for student discussions with the core of the learning coming from student-to-student interactions.

• DOCC: Distributed Online Collaborative Courses in which the same core courses material is distributed to students at multiple institutions, but the exact administrators of the material can vary.

• BOOC: Big Open Online Courses are similar to MOOCs but limited to smaller number of students; typically 50

Open Online Courses

• SMOC: Synchronous Massive Online Courses, where the lectures are broadcast live, requiring students to log in at specific times in order to hear the lectures.

• SPOC: Small Private Online Courses are similar to BOOCs, but the students teacher interactions are more closely modeled after traditional classroom interactions. SPOCs are similarly referenced in the “flipped classroom” model.

• NOOC: Nano Open Online Courses were meant to empower learners to learn on the essentials of one competency, skill or area of knowledge at a time within 20 learning hours or less, depends upon one’s preferences and ability.
