Forms of Communication
1. Non-verbal communication:
Process of communicating without words Gestures, facial expressions, spatial relation
ship Less structured
Forms of Communication
2. Verbal Communication:
It consists of words arranged in meaningful patterns
Arrange that words according to the rules of grammar, put the various parts of speech in the proper sequence
Transmit the message in spoken or written form
Forms of Communication
Oral communication provides the opportunity for feedback, when people communicating orally , they can understand the message by asking questions
Written forms of communication are more appropriate and effective
When the audience is large and geographically dispersed written forms of communication is more effective
Communication Process
Communication can be broken into six phases
1.The sender has an idea2.The sender encodes the idea3.The sender transmits the message4.The receiver gets the message5.The receiver decodes the message6.The receiver sends feedback
Role of Channels
It is a medium between the sender and receiver
Channels plays a role in between the phase 3 and phase 4
Channels of Communication
Channel is the medium through which information is conveyed
Carrier of the informationEach channel has certain constraints as well
as advantages in terms of transmitting messages

1. Telephone: Used for instant communication of a short
duration Questions and answers must be short and
unambiguous Effectiveness is depends on ability to speak
clearly and concisely Used for preliminary enquiries about a job
or for clarification

2. Letter: Used where there is more time available Allows more space for explanation and
persuasion Is the accepted channel of formal
application Does not provide instant feedback Leaves the interpretation open ended,
hence messages must be carefully constructed

3. Fax:Overtly like letter in structureProvides for immediate receipt, but does not
require an immediate responseCannot run in to more than 1 or more pages,
hence message must be short
