Cover Lines and Main Cover Line: This gives the reader a quick overview of what’s in the magazine.

Strapline/Skyline: This always appears at the top of a magazine. Slogan: This helps to create the brand identity of a magazine. Lure: This catches the readers attention and makes them want to buy the magazine. House Colours: These are very important for the brand identity of a magazine as they make

the magazine recognizable from a distance. Masthead: This is also extremely important to the brand identity as this will appear on every

cover. Headline: This shows the main feature in the magazine. Central Image: The central image has to be striking as it will be the first thing the readers

see. Most magazines use direct address on a front cover image. Buzzwords: These are words such as ‘exclusive’ and ‘free gift’ which make an audience want

to buy the magazine to see these exclusive interviews or get the freebies inside. Textboxes/box-outs: These make the front cover more interesting so it’s not just an image

and text. It also draws the attention to this part. Dateline: These usually include the date, issue number and website. Bar Code: Every magazine has a barcode on the front but it doesn’t get in the way of the

main features of the page. Anchorage Text: These provide a link between the image and magazine so that the reader

knows who the person or band in the image is.
