We learn that Sarajevo is a city where East meets West in the opening

paragraph where it says it is “a city where Jews, Christians and Muslims have

long lived side by side.” This suggests people from different cultures have

come to live there. Secondly, we learn Sarajevo used to be a place where

traders from around the world would meet where it says, “Sarajevo was a

great trading point between Italian designers and Silk Road travellers from

China.” This portrays Sarajevo has a half-way point between Europe and

China. Overall, we get the impression Sarajevo is a city that has many

different faces from both sides of the world.
