GeometryGeometry is a branch

of mathematics concerned with

questions of shape, size, relative position of

figures, and the properties of space.

The earliest recorded beginnings of geometry can

be traced to Ancient MesopotamiaAnd Egypt in the 2nd millennium BC. Early

geometry was a collection of empirically discovered principles concerning

lengths, angles, areas, and volumes, which were

developed to meet some practical need

in surveying, construction, astronomy, and various

crafts.

QUADRILATERALSA quadrilateral is a 2-dimensional closed

shape with four straight sides.  E.g. The shape ABCD shown here is a quadrilateral.

A line segment drawn from one vertex of a quadrilateral to the opposite vertex is called

a diagonal of the quadrilateral.  AC is a diagonal of quadrilateral ABCD, as is BD.
