7. The University of Cumbria Approach (aka St Martins) It
involves the extensive use of the TL by both pupils and teachers,
through mimes, song, team competition, linguistic visual support,
and high levels of interaction and classroom routines which have
the aim of developing the conditions for spontaneous talk whilst
encouraging pupils to work things out for themselves. Its
fundamental difference from CLT is that it promotes accuracy at the
same time as fluency through enabling the pupils to focus on the
detail of how the language works.
