Refers to the appearance of the completed design project.
Ergonomics (Rochford – p.50) those factors or qualities in the design of something,
especially a workplace or equipment used by people, that contribute to comfort, efficiency, safety, and ease of use.

Function (Rochford – p.49) Refers to how well the project works in relation
to the identified needs. Health & Safety (Rochford – p.54)
The safe use of, tools, materials, techniques and the use for a design, producer, user and disposer throughout the life cycle of a design project.
Need (Rochford – p.49) Things that people must have to survive and
grow.

Durability (Rochford – p.55) Refers to whether the design will last for its
designed life in the situation or environment for which it has been designed.
Obsolescence (Rochford – p.55) Refers to when a design project is no longer
usable and must be either discarded, reused or recycled.

Refers to the use of renewable resources so that reserves are not depleted too quickly.
Innovation (Rochford – p.99) The act or process of inventing or
introducing something new. Life Cycle (Rochford – p.50)
Refers to the analysis of a design at all stages, from conception to disposal.

Each society will be affected differently by innovation and technology and to a certain extent is influenced by economic and political issues, culture and history.
