Grandparents!

Discovering our grandparents work…

Our students from 5th and 6th grade interviewed their grandparents. Our students decided to ask them

three important questions.

- Their names : students introduced their grandparents names and they could compare the

most popular names in the past. - Age: students could see the average of grandparents

age.- Jobs: students could compare or see the job

differences from now and then.

Discovering our grandparents work…

Students classified their grandparents job into the different job sectors.

- Primary sector.

- Secondary sector.

- Tertiary sector.

Job sectors : Primary sector

Around 50s and even before, in Sant Andreu

de la Barca,most of the population worked in

agriculture.

Some grandparents worked as farmers.

Job sectors : Secondary sector

In 60s and 70s, Sant Andreu de la Barca was important for its industries. Sant

Andreu de la Barca became the heart of the industrial axis of the Llobregat area.

Most of the grandparents worked in important factories such as Seat (car

factory).

Job sectors : Tertiary sector

Other grandparents worked as cleaners, drivers or in shops.

Grandparents at school!

Students discovered that some of the grandmothers have a lot of ability in

arts and crafts because when they were young they sew.

They also dicovered that when grandmothers went to school, they had

one subject called “sewing”.

In the past, grandmothers learned a sewing technique called “Puntas de

coixi”.

Now, in Vall de Palau school grandmothers teach the youngest

learners to make knot bracelets with balloons; and the oldest knit technique

to make necklaces.
