Growth Mindset Quotation for the Week of Jan. 18

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit.”

Aristotle

Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and scientist born in the city of Stagira, Chalkidice, on the northern periphery of Classical Greece. His

father, Nicomachus, died when Aristotle was a child, where after Pyroxenes of Atreus became his guardian.

Born: 384 BC, Stagira, Aristoteles, GreeceDied: 322 BC, Chalcis, Greece

Aristotle is said to have written 150 philosophical treatises. The 30 that survive touch on an enormous range of philosophical problems, from biology and physics to morals to aesthetics to politics. Many, however, are thought to be "lecture notes" instead of complete, polished treatises, and a few may not be the work of Aristotle but of members of his school.

IEP Tip for the Week of Jan 18

Independent Educational

Evaluation (IEE)

The parent of a child with a

disability may request an IEE

and may be entitled for an IEE at public expense.

An IEE is an evaluation

conducted by a person who is not employed by the

district.

The parent may be granted an IEE only if he or she disagree with an

evaluation conducted by the

district.

Contact the district office

as soon as you learn about an

IEE request

IEP Tip of the Week

Generally, the parent is not

entitled to an IEE if the district has not conducted its own assessment in the

area of the evaluation.

Sometimes parents may provide staff with a copy

of an evaluation. This may be a speech report,

psychological assessment, an OT

evaluation, or any other assessment conducted by

an outside provider. If staff receive an evaluation, the case

manager must immediately

schedule an IEP to review the IEE

provided by the parent.

At the IEP the school district staff

will consider the recommendations

and amend the child’s IEP program

if appropriate.
