In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products

We designed our media products so that they contained codes and conventions :

- We have included on all our front covers a barcode in the bottom right hand corner of all 3 issues to show this is a professional quality magazine. The name of our magazine is continually placed in the centre of the page at the top so audiences can recognise it. The logo is also a continuous feature on the front covers as this imprints the image in the readers mind so that it easily recognisable. The main artists featured in the magazine is placed on the front cover to attract fans and readers.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our magazine represents mainly ethnic minority groups, we feature many Black and Asian artists in our magazine to appeal to this particular social group, and also to attract a variety of different customers. Currently in the music industry there are very few popular, widely known, British Asian based music magazines, therefore we saw a gap in the music magazine industry to try and develop and advertise a magazine that would be popular to the younger demographic and could advertise and support new, up and coming artists.

What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?

Our magazine can be distributed from a variety of institutions for example music stores could sell them. This would mean a gain for that company because customers who read the reviews and articles shown in the magazine would want to buy the music. A record company could use the magazine also to look for potential artists and new talent, which is one of the main objectives of the magazine.

Who would be the target audience for our media product?

Our magazine is aimed at the British Asian R'n'B culture. The age range is 16-24 years. As well as supporting new talent from other British ethnic minority, we aim to bring together all communities via our content and features. Our magazine can be used as a platform for new artists to advertise themselves and get noticed within the industry.

How did you attract/address your audience?

We used the design features on our magazine to catch the potential readers eye. We used bright, bold colours, with a neon effects font on some of our contents page and large prints for the front cover. This appeals to the audience and interests the reader, making them want to pick up the magazine and find out what s all about. We included large pictures of our featured artists to attract the current and potential fans of the magazine and also people who may just be fans of that issues featured artists and would want to read more about them. This could allow us to introduce our magazine to a wider target audience and build up popularity.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

All our work was mainly created in Photoshop using a variety of the features, we gained many new skills when developing and experimenting with our products. We found that using Photoshop was the best option to create our magazine because it was easy to use and we could edit images and create texts boxes etc.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at our preliminary task we feel that when comparing the preliminary and the final we learnt to design a magazine with our potential reader in mind at all times and to structure it in accordance to our customers and genre. Compared to our preliminary magazine product we have a more developed and layout and graphical features. With our final coursework we did more research into the developing of our product therefore we were able to produce a better quality product.
