Made a market town as between Colchester and London. They worked as carpenters and blacksmiths. The civilization declined when romans left.

They built a bridge around the river Can in 1100. They held a weekly market by the bridge They held an annual fair in Chelmsford. Big leather industry with Skinners and Tanners Monks came in the 13th century. Leper Hostel in Moulsham. Black Death got rid of half the population in Chelmsford.

It was still a fair size market town. The railway reached Chelmsford in 1843. Chelmsford then became known for its engineering; used for making

electrical equipment. Streetlights lit by gas by 1819. 1883 hospital opened – Chelmsford and Essex hospital. In1899 Marconi opened the first radio factory in Chelmsford.
