History of washing machine

Washing machine is a machine used to wash laundry such as clothes and sheets

The earliest washing '‘machine'‘ was the scrub board invented in 1797. Laundering by hand involved a lot of hard work . Water for the laundry was hand carried because there was no running water in most households

In 1858 Hamilton Smith patented the rotary washing machine .As electricity was not commonly available until 1930 some early washing machines were operated by a low-speed gasoline engine

In 1874 William Blackstone of Indiana built a birthday present for his wife. It was a machine which removed and washed away dirt from clothes . This was the first washing machine designed for convenient use in the house

Modern washers use a computer controlled system for controlling load size and automatically adjusts the wash cycle
