The difference between two values divided by the average of the two values. Shown as a percentage.

Percentage difference is usually calculated when you want to know the difference in percentage between two numbers.

The order of the numbers does not matter as we are simply dividing the difference between two numbers by the average of the two numbers.

To calculate the difference relatively, from an old number to a new number, you would calculate percentage change.

difference between 5 and 7

• Let a = 5 and b = 7 &

plug numbers into our formula ( | (a - b) | / ((a + b)/2) ) * 100= ( | (5 - 7) | / ((5 + 7)/2) ) * 100= ( |-2| / (12/2)) * 100= ( 2/6 )* 100= 0.3333 * 100 = 33.33% difference.

Note:

That if we let a = 7 and b = 5 we would still have a difference of 33.33%.
