that are the frame of the pallet rack

B. Load Beams: Horizontal cross

members that create shelf levels for

pallets to be placed on.

C. Shelf Surfaces

Designing your Pallet Rack System

doesn’t have to be Complicated

Page 3: How to Order Pallet Rack

There are many

options to make

your pallet rack the

most versatile and

easy to use

depending on your

industry.

FIRST Figure out

your layout and take

measurements of

your available

space.

Page 4: How to Order Pallet Rack

NEXT Figure out how many storage bays you’re going to need.

A bay is the storage area between two upright frames.

This will determine how many uprights and beams you’ll need.

Figure 2 beams and 2 wire decks per shelf level.

MEASURING UPRIGHT FRAMES

Page 6: How to Order Pallet Rack

Your beam length will be the space between (or inside) the two upright frame

columns. An 8’ beam will be slightly longer than 96” to account for the

buttons that hook into the frame columns.

Don’t forget to add 3” for each upright frame column. If you have a space that

measures exactly 8’, you can’t use 8’L beams. 96”+3”+3” = 102”

Make sure to account for the 3” for EACH frame column.

SHELF SURFACES FOR PALLET RACK

Wire Decks

• Standard size beams require 2 wire decks per shelf level.

•The decks span the beams and create a shelf surface from front to back and

left to right so you can store things that aren’t on a pallet.

•The size of the wire decks will be based on the length of your beams.

Plywood or Particle Board w/ Beam Supports

Beam Supports or Support Bars: Metal supports

that are placed in the steps of the beams creating a

bridge from the front to the rear beam. Generally

there are two supports per pallet position on each

level. You can place pallets directly on these or

use plywood or particle board as the surface.

Row Spacers (optional): They come in a variety of sizes

and shapes but the function of row spacers is to provide a

proper space between the rows of rack. They are bolted

between two rows of rack that are back to back.

PALLET RACK OPTIONS

PALLET RACK OPTIONS

•Used to protect upright frames.

•Forklift drivers accidentally hit

pallet rack uprights; usually within

the first 12" of the upright base.

•They help prevent damage to the

front post of an upright near the

floor.
