!bot Roboliterate Program
• !bot is launching Roboliterate program for all IITM students.
• Attend all !bot sessions, workshops, lectures and get certified as !bot Level 1 robotdeveloper/Roboliterate.
• Do a summer project under !bot and reach Level 2 and it goes on.
• Fill in your name and roll-number in the sheet that is passing around.
• NO PROXY PLEASE :P

ROBOTICS
Manual Robotics
AutonomousRobotics
What will we learn today?
ibot Club
We’ll learn to make a simple remote
controlled robot which can be made to move in any
desired direction

Tools Required
ibot Club
• Hacksaw / Jigsaw• Hand drill / Power drill• Spanners• Pliers• Screwdriver• Wire Stripper
Materials Required
ibot Club
• Wood• Nuts and bolts• Motors• Wheels• Clamps & flanges• Batteries• Wires• Switches
Basic Structure
ibot Club
• Wood (Easiest material to work with)• Acrylic • Aluminium • Simplest shape to cut : Rectangular
Motor
ibot Club
• Electromechanical devices which converts EE into ME
• Two terminals• Can rotate in both directions• Main Specifications: • RPM (Rotations per minute) • Torque (kgcm)• Voltage (V)
Motor Parts

GEAR BOX MOTOR SHAFT
• Shaft: It is where we attach wheel or an other mechanism
• Gearbox: This is to reduce the basic rpm of the motor to the desired one.
• Motor: High RPM motor which is then reduced using gearbox.
Wheels
ibot Club
• Normal Wheels• Omni Wheels

Clamping motor-wheel to chasis
ibot Club
• ‘C’ clamps• ‘U’ clamps• ‘L’ clamps• Special clamps

Fixing of a castor wheel
ibot Club
• Align castor such that chassis remains parallel to the ground.

Why 3 wheels and not 4 wheels?
ibot Club
• To define a plane uniquely, you require atleast 3 points, but if we have 4 points we need to make sure that all the four points lie in a plane.
• Hence, 3 is the preferred choice. We need suspensions incase of 4 wheels
Placement of battery
ibot Club
• Make sure Center of Gravity remains as low as possible.
• Lead acid, LiPO(Lithium Polymer), Ni-Mh
Motor Control
ibot Club
• DPDT ( Double Pole Double Throw ) switches controls each motor.

How to get involved?
ibot Club
• Techsoc: Manual & Line-follower
• Make your own remote controlled robot.
• Involve yourself with seniors who are into robotics
• Volunteer for ongoing projects in CFI.
• Tech fests of other colleges and institutions
Basic Manual Robotics Workshop
ibot Club
• A workshop which is the hands-on version of today’s session
• Make your own remote controlled robot.
• On 22/09/2013 2:30PM @CFI
• A highly subsidized workshop for all IITM students at just 250 INR.
• Bring to reality what you have learnt today.
