• An educational plan that includes goals YOU plan to accomplish in a year’s time

• Reviewed annually (every year)

• Includes strengths and weaknesses– What you can and can not

do

• Includes a transition plan– What will you do after high

school

Case Manager

• Is not your personal lackey

• Makes teachers aware of your accommodations

• Answers questions about your IEP

• Keeps your file up to date

What are the Accommodations?

• The most common accommodations you will see in your IEP are:

• Read Aloud• Extended time• Preferential seating• Computer• Student marks in book• Multiple test sessions• Testing-separate room

Read Aloud

• As a student, you are able to have the test, quiz or other class materials read to you in a private setting.

Extended Time

• Extra time to take a test or quiz• This time is in addition to the time already set

for the test or quiz.– Example: Test time – 40 min; Extended time – 30

min; Total time: 70 min (1 hour 10 min)• You must finish the test within 24 hours and

not beyond the extended time you are allotted. Otherwise, your test or quiz will be returned to your teacher

Preferential Seating• Seating that is

necessary for you to get the most out of class

• Example:– Sitting in the front– Sitting near the

teacher– Sitting away from

windows– Sitting away from the

door

What Do These Accommodations Mean?

Computer Use

• Sometimes this accommodation is made so that a student can type papers or answers to test questions on the computer

Mark In Test Book

• Allows for the student to mark answers in the test book. The answers can then be transferred onto an answer sheet or scan-tron by the student or the teacher.

Multiple Test Sessions• The student will be

allowed additional class periods to take a test.

• This will be determined by the IEP team members

• This is NOT the same as extended time.

Testing-Separate Room*Separate Setting*

• A student can take their test or quiz in a separate room in an area that is suitable for the students’ testing purpose

• Can be small group (10 or less) or One on One

• Most often small group

Where Do I Go From Here?

• Once you have the accommodations in place, it is your responsibility to use them.

• Your teacher will know the accommodations that are necessary but you need to SPEAK UP if those accommodations are not being met.

• Remember: Teachers are busy and they have A LOT of students, advocate for yourself to get the necessary help you need!!!!!
