Geospatial Analysis of 2005 Hurricane Katrina and its Impacts on Mississippi

Natalie LaHaye (BS 2009)

• ENGR597-25 May 2008• This report is an analysis of the

effects of Hurricane Katrina.

• Maps display the population in Mississippi by county in 1990, 2000, and 2006. These show the change in population; pre-Katrina and post-Katrina.

• Also shown are GeoMediaProfessional v6.1 thematic maps representing the death rate in each county due to Hurricane Katrina and the degree of assistance declared by each county (right).

ENGR 597-25 May 2008 Lisa Conchos (BS 2009)

• These slides compare the transportation emissions of CO2 of the U.S. from 1990 and 2003.

• Both in 1990 and 2003, California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania are the five states with the highest emissions.

• The five states that produce the least amount of transportation are: Vermont, Rhode Island, Delaware, South Dakota, and the District of Columbia.

Geospatial Analysis of Africa: People, Education, Economy & Environment

By: Lauren Haney, ENGR 597-25, May 2008

• A hospital is planned to be built in Togo, Africa.

• To assist in evaluating the number of people the hospital would serve, a vector map of Togo prefectures was necessary.

• Therefore, major objectives included:(1) understanding the process of registering

a jpeg image from Google Earth and (2) using Intergraph GeoMediaPro v.

6.1 to complete a vector map of prefectures and thematic map of population ranges.

• Findings: Income is the overall source of all trends, whether dealing with demographical, educational or environmental issues.
