Curricular Statement : Pupil made aware of the concept of changes and its role in our daily life

through observation, discussion and experimentation.Content Analyis :

Terms:

Physical and Chemical Changes

Facts:

Certain changes are temporary and does not results in the formation of substance which is chemically different from the elder one.

Certain changes are permanent and results in the formation of new substances.

Concept An act or process through which something become different is known as

changes.

Page 5: Innovative lesson template

The temporary changes which happens only to the physical properties of a material and does not produces any new substances are called Physical Changes.

The permanent changes, which results in the formation of new substance are called Chemical Changes.

Learning Outcomes :

1. RememberThe pupil

a) Recalls various changes around them.b) Recognizes the difference between changes.

2. UnderstandThe pupil

a) Explains the features of physical and chemical changes.b)Illustrates examples for them.

3. ApplyThe pupil implements the concept of physical and chemical changes in new and unfamiliar situations.

Page 6: Innovative lesson template

4. AnalyseThe pupil differentiating characteristics of physical and chemical changes.

5. EvaluateThe pupil coordinates the application of changes.

6. CreateThe pupil generating various situations of physical and chemical changes.

Pre-requisites

Pupil knows the various changes happening around them.

Teaching- Learning resources

Match box, Candle, Paper, Balloon, Blackboard etc.

Class room Interaction Procedure Students responses

Teacher welcomes children in to the new lesson. She enters in friendly talk with the students. She asks children to compare the early life and present life situation by discussion.

Discussion point What are the differences you observe

Teacher says, let us study the next concept in a different way. For that teacher selects a boy and girl. Assigning the role of father on boy and daughter ( Meenu ) on girl. She gives the dialogue for father and his daughter for a

Students actively participates in the discussion and records the following points.

Number of vehicles increased. Rate of population increased. Development in technology

conversation. Both the students goes through the dialogue and get ready for the conversation. Teacher asks other children to observe their action and conversation.

Activity No.1

Meenu’s father entering to home carrying a bag. In the bag there is a cake and a cover of balloon.

Father : These are all for tomorrow’s birthday celebration.

Meenu : Papa, there is a cover of balloon in the bag.

Father : Oh, that is for decorating our walls tomorrow’s party.

Meenu : Please Papa, let me take some balloons from it ?

Page 9: Innovative lesson template

Father : Ok, You take one balloon blow

Meenu : When the balloon is filled with air, how beautiful it is ? isn’t it ?

Father : Yes, it is. Now let you allow the air go out of the balloon.

Meenu : Oh, the balloon came into the intial stage.

Father : Dear daughter, Can you say what happened here?

Meenu : When air is filled the balloon got a shape and size and when air got out it came back to the ………….

Father : Yes, you are correct. The balloon undergone a physical change.

Meenu : Physical change ? What is that ?

Father : Physical changes are

temporary changes which happened to objects and does not results in the formation of new substance.

After this conversation teacher asks other examples of physical changes.

ConsolidationThe temporary changes

which does not results in the formation of new substances are called physical changes.

Now, teacher welcomes pupil to an interesting story.

Activity No -2

Raju was a boy who loves to do experiments. One day he saw a

Pupil could actively say changes such as Freezing of water Melting of wax

candle on the table at home. He lightened the candle. Suddenly the candle starts melting and the melted drops fell on his hands. He droped the candle down and looked at his hands. He saw that the melted wax drops changed again into solid wax. Soon he turned back, seeing the light of fire some sheets of paper caught fire from the candle and burnt to ashes. The two changes MADE HIM THINK. He could understand that even though change was happened no new substance were formed. But in the second case the paper burnt to ashes which formed entirely a new substance. Next day Raju illustrated his experience to his teacher. Then the

teacher explained that the change of paper into ashes is a chemical change. Those are permanent changes which results in the formation of entirely new substances. They are irreversible changes. Such changes are called ‘Chemical Changes’. Thus the doubt of Raju was cleared.

After telling the story teacher asks, Can you say some examples of chemical change now.

Consolidation

The permanent irreversible changes which results in the formation of entirely new substances are called Chemical Changes.

Students actively said the changes such as;

Curding of milk Cooking of food

Review

Define Chemical Changes ?

Give example for physical change ?

Follow –Up Activity

Is changes are needed for our life ? Substantiate

Tabulate the different changes around us as Chemical and Physical Changes?
