Introduction

This internship training is aimed to introduce students to the requirements activities and operations

involved in working in architectural practices. I was worked under Jong Kit Architect J&J Studio in Shah

internship period. I’ve commenced on the 2nd January 2017 and ended on 3rd March 2017. During the

internship period, I’ve approached different job scope daily according to the current projects given and

also expected to manipulate our time to multitask as well as complete the given tasks on time.

Project Overview

Project 1: Gardenia Factory

Site: Klang

The project is at the initial stage and yet to submit the Building Plans. I was assigned to propose the type

of ceiling, ceiling plan, complete the sanitary diagrammatic drawings and colour the building plans for

submission. This project was stressed by the client in terms of date of completion. Thus, I was given a

very limited time. Since it is my first task in the firm, I’ve learnt that different firm has its own format of

drawing, for example, the font size, drawing arrange and more. I’ve also learnt several types of ceilings

in this project and also the details of each ceiling. Furthermore, I have checked and correct the sanitary

diagrammatic of the project, I was able to apply my knowledge from building services to this task and

get to know the whole system well through this task. Last task of this project is to colour the building

plans with appropriate colours. I was able to learn to identify which area should be coloured by which

colour for the submission of authorities. My employer has told me that any incorrect colour will cause

the rejection of the submission and the submission fees will be burnt, so, I’ve do it with extra caution to

avoid any mistakes from the tasks.

This project will conduct a meeting weekly, I got to chance to observe them to prepare the documents

and minutes. There are some suppliers came to our office and discuss their products and I was at the

side to observe the meeting and learnt that the way how the architects deal with suppliers.

Project 2: 3-storey Bungalow Construction

Site: Country Height Damansara

This project is to build a 3-storey bungalow. I was assigned to prepare a complete set of tender drawings

including window and door schedules, window and door details, toilet details, ramp details, staircase

details, bridge details, refuse chamber details, kitchen details, gate details, pond details, pool details,

balcony details, temporary building details, diagrammatic drawings, schedule of finishes and a list of

these drawings. I’ve the privilege to handle the project and given a month to complete these drawings.

I’ve also observe my employer to prepare the documents for the authorities such as BP, Borang B and

the report of this project. Through this project, I’ve learnt that different authority has different checklist

for submission and it will change over time so we have to keep update with the checklist before the

submission of the documents. I’ve visited the OSC (One Stop Centre) in DBKL for the submission and

observe my colleagues deal with the officers in OSC.

Project 3: 2-Storey Bungalow Construction

Site: Cheras

This is a 2-Storey Bungalow in construction stage and my employer brought me there for me observe

system. Then, I have to list of the elements stated above and our employer will explain the framing

system with inner frame and outer frame, the common dimension of manhole and I have to draw out

the sanitary diagrammatic and roof plan with explanation of the system. I’ve told how the architect deal

with the contractor on site and the proper way to record each dimension.

Project 4: Kindergarten measured drawings

This is project where the kindergarten constructed a wooden house at the classroom without informing

the authority and it was caught doing that and force to closed down until further notice. Our firm was

called to help out with the situation with producing a set of drawings and communicate with the

authority (MBSA). I went to the site for measuring the building and met the client for understanding the

situation. After that, I was assigned to draw the building plans and discuss with my colleagues regarding

the discussion with the authority. I’ve learn the Building By-Law’s requirement while discuss with my

colleagues regarding to the illegal buildings built by the kindergarten. I’ve also involved in the meeting

Learning Outcome and Conclusion

During the 8 weeks internship training, I’ve learnt to adapt the architectural working

environment. I got to understand how a project going to run, from the start of a project and end of a

project, and how to communicate with client, officers in the authorities. Furthermore, I’ve learnt to

manage my time properly to meet the deadline of each project and complete it as prefect as possible. I

architect in the project.

I’ve also improved with my skills of technical drawings and be sensitive with the errors in a

drawings.

Besides the projects I’ve mentioned above, I have also involved in other projects which in

all these documents accordingly and submit it to the authorities. Although I wasn’t assign any task from

these projects, but my employer allowed me to observe the procedure and I was able to understand

how the documents being prepared.

Thus, it was a fruitful experience for me not only in the working skills but also get to excel new

software during my internship period, which would be helpful for myself.
