Suppose you are given a pizza and a knife. You are
required to cut the pizza into eight equal piece
using the knife with only three cuts..
How would you do it???
1. Cut the pizza into two equal pieces 2 pieces.
2. Stack the two pieces of pizza on top of each other, and make
another cut 4 pieces
3. Stack the four pieces of the pizza on top of each other, and make
another cut 8 pieces
The number of pieces can be written in a form of :
Number of pieces (N) = 2c, where c is the number of cut we made
N = 2 c
Therefore;
C (Number of Cut/s)
(input)
N (Number of pieces)
(output)
0 N = 20 = 1
1 N = 21 = 2
2 N = 22 = 4
3 N = 23 = 8
The number of pieces (pizzas) is said to increase
exponentially according to the cuts being made.
N = 2 c
Constant
(base)
Variable
(power / exponent)
Therefore:
An exponential function is a function which involves,
a constant (base) raised to a variable power (exponent).
