• In February 2005, Vineet Nayar, CEO, HCL Technologiesannounced a radical new philosophy, “Employee First,Customer

Second” (EFCS).

• Through this philosophy the aim was to create a unique employee organization, drive an inverted organizational structure, create transparency and accountability within the organization, and encourage a value driven culture.

Why it began?• HCL realized that in service industry the value gets created

not in the back office but in face to face interaction between the customer and employees.

• Hence it is important to empower employees so that they deliver more value to the customers. When an employee is delighted, he will delight the customer.

• This gave birth to a path breaking philosophy called : 'Employee First, Customer Second‘, termed by Fortune as "The most modern management idea".

What Is Organizational Behavior?

• Organizational behavior (OB)- The systematic study and application of

knowledge about how individuals and groups act within the organizations where they work.

E.g.…

• if I want to understand my boss’s personality, I would be examining the individual level of analysis. If we want to know about how my manager’s personality affects my team, I am examining things at the team level. But, if I want to understand how my organization’s culture affects my boss’s behavior, I would be interested in the organizational level of analysis.

Why Organizational Behavior Matters

• OB matters at three critical levels. - It matters because it is all about things you

care about.Getting along with others,getting a great job,lowering your stress level,Making more effective decision,and working effectively within a team…these are

all great things, and OB addresses them!

recent survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) asked employers which skills are the most important for them when evaluating job candidates, and OB topics topped the list.

ABCs of Me• You have been hired by the Creative Classroom Company to

illustrate a poster to help children learn their ABCs. By happy coincidence, you and your first name are the subject of the poster!

• First, take a piece of flipchart paper and write your name vertically down the left side.

• Next, choose a word that starts with each letter of your name. The word should describe something about you. Write those words horizontally across the paper, using the letters of your name as the first letter of each descriptive word.

• After you have listed your words, draw an accompanying picture to illustrate each.

• When you are finished, tape your poster to the board.
