The war in northern Uganda has been called the most neglected humanitarian emergency in the world today. For the past 23 years, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) have been waging a war that has left nearly two million innocent civilians caught in the middle and fighting for their lives. The GoU's attempt to protect its citizens from this rebel militia has largely failed, resulting in an entire generation of youth that has never known peace.

History and Background

Page 3: Invisible Children PP

Over 1.2 million children have been captured by rebel warriors and are being forced to fight a war that they know nothing about. They are brutally trained, given automatic rifles and are put on the front lines of the Uganda war. These children soldiers are never given amenities and opportunities that we take for granted, like proper housing, nutrition and education. Many children are killed, families destroyed and communities obliterated.

Process for Establishing Public Schooling

The S4S (Schools for Schools) program emerged from our overarching goal to raise the standards of secondary education in northern Uganda. The projects under the S4S umbrella encourage academic excellence not only within students, but also, on a much larger scale, excellence within their schools. By delving to the root of local development issues and improving education holistically from the ground up, we are able to help improve the quality of education in the region through a variety of implementation

practices.

My Personal Connection

I am studying to become an

elementary school teacher and more than anything, I want to help

children in any way I can- even if they’re on the

other side of the planet.
