- 4. Irish Step Dances
- Dances are known by their music; which has different speeds,
counts, and beats

- 5. Irish Dance Soft Shoes

- Worn only by girls; for Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Single
Jigs.

- Made of black leather and similar to ballet shoes in
design.

- Laces crisscross across the top of the feet and are tied up
around the ankle or under the arch of the foot.

- Worn tight fitted on feet to enhance look of feet
positions.

- Worn with special socks, called Poodle Socks.

- Wornonly by boys; for Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Single
Jigs.

- Made of black leather, with fiberglass heels that the dancers
can click together.

- Boy's steps are different than the girls, in order to use the
heels.
- 7. Irish Dance Hard Shoes

- Worn by boys and girls; for Treble Jig and Hornpipe, to create
beautiful rhythmical percussions.

- Made of black leather with fiberglass heels and taps on the tip
of the shoes.

- Worn firm fitting in length and width, to help enhance look of
feet and prevent foot for sliding or moving in shoe.
- 8. Girl's Irish Dance Costume

- Dresses worn by girls are copies of a traditional Irish peasant
dress.

- Decorated with lace collar and hand-embroidered Irish designs
based on the Book of Kells and Irish stone crosses.

- Copies of famous Tara Brooch are worn on shoulder to hold the
flowing shawl which falls down over the back.

- Bright colors are always used.
- 9. Boy's Irish Dance Costume

- Plain kilt or pants and jacket and a brat, a folded cloak
hanging from the shoulder.

- Boy's costumes are less decorated then girl's costumes.
- 10. Irish Dance Competition

- Commonly called a Feis, meaning "festival" in Irish. Sometimes
called File.

- Dance competitions are divided by age and level of skill.
