Operation Valkyrie (Unternehmen Walküre) was an emergency "Continuity-of-Government" operations plan developed for the Territorial Reserve Army of Germany to execute and implement should, for whatever reason, there come to be a general breakdown in civil order of the nation; caused by the failure of the nominal civilian (Nazi) led government, to maintain control of civil affairs. The plan was approved by German dictator Adolf Hitler, who intended it to be used in the event that physical disruption caused by the Allied bombing of German cities resulted in a breakdown in domestic law and order; or a rising by the millions of forced laborers from occupied countries working in German factories.

Claus von Stauffenberg was a German

Lieutenant-Colonel in the 10th Panzer

Division of the German Nazi Army, along

with being a lead conspirator in the July

20th plot to kill Hitler.

On July 1, 1944 Stauffenberg was

appointed chief-of-staff to General Fromm

at the Reserve Army headquarters on

Bendlerstrasse in central Berlin. This

allowed him to go to Hitler's meetings and

find out more information about the Nazis.

By July 7th all preparations were made for

the revolt against the worlds greatest

threat. A small acid chamber linked to high

explosives was the bomb placed in

Stauffenberg’s briefcase that would kill

Hitler.

The Wolfsschancze, aka the Wolfs Lair,

was the appointed concrete building that

the July 20th meeting was to take place.

Around 12:30 p.m. as the conference began, Stauffenberg made an excuse to use a washroom in Wilhelm Keitel's office where he used pliers to crush the end of a pencil detonator inserted into a 1 kg block of plastic explosives wrapped in brown paper, this bomb was prepared by Wessel von Freytag-Loringhoven. The detonator consisted of a thin copper tube containing acid that would take ten minutes to silently eat through wire holding back the firing pin from the percussion cap . He then placed the primed bomb quickly inside his briefcase having been told his presence was required. He entered the conference room and with the unwitting assistance of Major Ernst John von Freyend he placed his briefcase under the table around which Hitler and more than 20 officers had gathered

With the bomb in place Stauffenberg puts

his briefcase next to Hitler, after a couple

minutes he leaves the meeting. Another

officer who was in the meeting had felt

Stauffenberg’s briefcase fall against his

leg, he then placed the bag behind a

concrete table leg.

4 men were killed during the explosion, yet

Hitler again survived.

After several hours of Operation Valkyrie

being in effect the Nazis were able to track

the conspirators back to Stauffenberg.

They were then immediately executed.

To the German people the conspirators are heroes, These are 8 main men who tried to change the world.
