A programme adapted to each age bracketVarious course locations are proposed according to your age and your level of autonomy. ESL organises optimised programmes which are perfectly suited to the motivations and specific interests of each age group. Here are the two options proposed.

A few good reasons which have already persuaded our students Our students study in centres belonging to a school recognised by national and international labels. They have the possibility to get to know students from across the world. During the courses, they benefit from the dynamics of studying in small groups.According to their preference, they have the choice between accommodation in a residence or in a host family.During their entire stay in the residence, they benefit from the peace of mind of 24-hour supervision. In addition, they participate in an incredible programme of activities and excursions, included in the price. They are given the possibility to add an additional dimension to their language study stay by selecting various activities, excursions and optional packages. In the same way, they compose their study programme thanks to the optional courses. And, of course, all of them have gained maximum benefit from the sound advice of our team when making their choice.

The ESL programmes Attractive destinations! We have carefully chosen the locations of our course centres whilst considering the main criteria which contribute, as far as we are concerned, to the success of a language study stay:

The proximity of cultural and tourist attractions, for entertaining activities and excursions. The ease of access by means of transport, particularly the proximity of international airports and train stations. The diversity and quality of the facilities in the course venues and in their surroundings, in order to offer our students a suitable study environment, optimal accommodation and the possibility to practise numerous sports. The international renown of the chosen destinations.

Accommodation A home away from home abroad! It is certainly easier to communicate, to exchange and to discover the culture around you when you feel at ease, “like at home”. In this way, in a pleasant and convivial environment which meets your expectations, you will be able to take full advantage of your language study stay. ESL has therefore selected the accommodation options which best suit the requirements of young students. According to the region, our students can choose to stay in a residence or with a host family. Whichever option you choose, you will be in an ideal situation to practise the language you are studying every day.

The ESL residences Living with young people of all nationalities, discovering various points of view and making friends, residence accommodation allows you to have a very enriching experience of community and international life. According to the destination, the students are accommodated in bedrooms with 1 to 4 beds with other ESL students. The language classes, the majority of meals as well as some of the activities take place within, or in the immediate surroundings of, the ESL campuses (residence + course centre). On request and depending on availability, our students may be accommodated with a friend.

The ESL host familiesThe conviviality of a family environment, a daily practice of the language of the country and the discovery of a new culture are some of the numerous advantages that accommodation with a host family offers. You will stay in a double room and will share the common rooms with the members of the family. You have breakfast and the evening meal with the family and lunch in the cafeteria of the course centre. On request and depending on availability, our students may be accommodated with a friend.

Pocket money service Just like at the bank!In the ESL residences, a pocket money service is proposed to the students. Functioning like a bank, the pocket money service is open every day, allowing for the deposit or withdrawal of money by

the students.

Internet & telephone access Stay connected! In order that each student may keep in contact with his/her family, there is nothing like Internet access. All of the ESL course centres are equipped in order that the students may access their e-mails for free. On the other hand, the course venues in the Alps are situated in regions which benefit from good network coverage for mobile phones.

Insurance Travel with full peace of mind!By means of our enrolment form, we propose to you to take out various options of insurance cover described below. These insurances are valid in Switzerland, in France or in Germany.

Health/accident During your enrolment for one of our programmes, you will need to certify that you are in possession of compulsory health and accident insurance cover, valid in the country that you will have chosen to visit. Cancellation In addition, we strongly recommend to you to take out a cancellation insurance, in the case where, at the last minute, you should be unable to participate in the language study programme that you have booked.

ESL supervision 100% safety! We look for the best environment possible in order that your language study stay is a real success. The supervision of our students is effective and discreet, adapted to the age-group and the type of accommodation booked. In this way, each student can gain maximum benefit from his/her stay in complete safety. From the first to the last day, the members of the ESL team are present and available to give the assistance requested by each student and to ensure their necessary safety. In the ESL residences, a complete 24-hour surveillance allows for optimal supervision. Students who choose ESL host families benefit from more free time in accordance with their parental authorisation. The ESL language courses

Learning a language has never been so fun!The ESL course programmes have been especially designed for young students and are adapted to the level of each participant. Thanks to sound teaching experience, ESL proposes an effective and enjoyable approach to language learning. The teachers attach particular importance to communication. They propose interactive and motivating classes which allow for the easy practice of newly acquired language skills. Progress is made naturally in a pleasant atmosphere. This is the dream opportunity to develop your language skills and to have an unforgettable experience.

The ESL teachersOur teaching team is made up of young and dynamic teachers who teach in their native language. The ESL teachers are chosen for their teaching talent, their enthusiasm and for the attention they know to give to each student. They make every effort in order to create a relaxed, fun and stimulating atmosphere. The topics of the lessons are as close as can be to the interests of the students. Even during the extracurricular activities, the teachers encourage the students to use the language being studied. This fun and motivating teaching is the key to effective learning.

Courses adapted to your levelWhatever their level of skills in the language they are studying, our students take a course adapted to their level. At the beginning of their stay, all of the ESL students sit an evaluation test, thanks to which each student is placed in a class corresponding best to his/her level. Each week, a small evaluation allows the teacher to accurately follow up on the progress being made by each of his/her students.

The ESL certificateAt the end of your stay, you receive an ESL certificate which attests to your participation in classes, validates the language level reached and specifies the results obtained.

Located in the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of 1263 m, the charming resort of Leysin benefits from exceptional sun exposure which has contributed to its renown amongst nature and mountain lovers.

A tourist destination for more than a century, barely 30 minutes away from Lake Geneva and the magnificent scenery of the Lavaux*, Leysin has managed to remain attractive and evolve over time, developing its facilities and notably obtaining the very exclusive Swiss «Families Welcome» label, with strict quality and security requirements for all animations and activities destined for children.

It is due to this privileged location that we have chosen Leysin to establish our Juniors courses, in order that our young people may, in addition to the learning of languages, make the most of the fresh air and fun there whilst practising their favourite sports and leisure activities.

LeysinThe oxygen of the Alps

It is no accident that Leysin welcomes so many international schools and students from around the world.

Everything is brought together here in order to offer ideal study conditions but also to satisfy the aspirations of a public which is young and eager for discoveries.

The facilities of the dynamic resort of the Vaudois Alps allow you to devote a lot of time to a wide variety of sports and leisure activities in a preserved natural setting, which complete the plentiful benefits of the nearby Swiss Riviera.

It is in this ideal environment that our course centres “Le Classic” in summer and “Le Central Résidence” in autumn propose tailor-made programmes adapted to 13-17 year olds. With a judicious mix of language classes, sports and leisure activities, each student finds what they are looking for and may blossom in full security and be perfectly supervised.

Imagine yourself at the top of the Eiffel Tower, or discovering the city from the bridge of a river boat. Sit down for a 3D projection which is even better than the real thing at the geode of the Museum of Science, pose beside the wax statue of Zinadine Zidane, stroll along the lively small streets of the Quartier Latin, applaud the Beaubourg street artists or admire the splendours of the Palace of Versailles and tell yourself you’re not dreaming. Our destination of Paris-Igny promises you all this and much more besides.

A charming small town to the south-west of the Parisian belt, nicknamed the garden town, Igny is an oasis of fresh air and greenery barely 25 minutes from the heart of the capital by RER (train).

This favourable location allows us to offer as extraordinary a destination as Paris in full security and to combine language classes, sports and residence accommodation in a magnificent environment with the discovery of all the marvels of the city of lights.

«Scents of mimosa, flowery quays lined with palm trees and a postcard-like setting…Ticino is without any doubt one of the most beauti-ful cantons in Switzerland. Ascona…It’s hard to dream of a better place for your language study stay in Italian-speaking Switzerland.»

Originally a fishing village, the resort of Ascona has become one of the most beautiful lakeside resorts of Italian-speaking Switzerland. Situated on the banks of the sumptuous Lago Maggiore, this refined town welcomes visitors looking for the tranquility of walks along the flowery quays shaded by palm trees as much as lovers of water sports. Ascona is particularly suited to active sports holidays, livened up by artistic and cultural discoveries.

Terms & conditions

8 - Cancellation prior to commencement of the course A contract partner may cancel his contract at any time prior to commencement of the language course. In that event, ESL will be entitled to seek payment of appropriate compensation, the amount of which will depend on the period of time remaining between the date on which ESL receives the cancellation and the date of commencement of the language course. In accordance with this principle, the amount of compensation is calculated as follows:56 days or more prior to the first day of the language course:10% of the total invoiced priceBetween 55 and 30 days prior to the first day of the language course:20% of the total invoiced priceBetween 29 and 22 days prior to the first day of the language course:30% of the total invoiced priceBetween 21 and 15 days prior to the first day of the language course:50% of the total invoiced priceBetween 14 days and the first day of the language course:100% of the total invoiced priceFailure to participate in the course or cancellation after the given deadlines:100% of the total invoiced priceThe registration fees of CHF 110 / EUR 75 and the insurance costs will remain due. The cancellation amount must be received at the latest 10 days following receipt of the cancellation invoice. In the event that a participant is refused a visa and the original refusal document issued by the Swiss/German/French Embassy is supplied, ESL undertakes to reimburse the whole amount paid, less an administration fee of CHF 150 / EUR 100 and bank charges of CHF 60 / EUR 40.

9 - Cancellation insuranceESL recommends that contract partners take out a cancellation insurance policy. In the event that the participant has taken out cancellation insurance and then cancels his course, he will be responsible for notifying his insurers. Under no circumstances will a cancellation insurance policy render ESL liable for non-reimbursement of a course. ESL offers cancellation insurance, for which the charge is approximately 3% of the total invoiced amount, up to a maximum of CHF 68 / EUR 50.

10 - Passports & visasThe participant will be responsible for complying with the security regulations, the regulations governing the obtaining of a visa, and the health regulations required to enter and stay in Switzerland/Germany/France. Under no circumstances will ESL be held liable for any notice of refusal to enter or stay in Switzerland/Germany/France given to a participant. Information relating to the regulations governing security, health and obtaining a visa can be obtained from the Swiss/German/French Embassy or Consulate in the participant’s home country. No reimbursement will be made, either in full or in part, in the event that a participant is refused permission to enter or stay in Switzerland/Germany/France by his own fault. ESL will provide a letter of invitation for the visa application following receipt of all the costs of the language course.

11 - Accident/health insurance Every participant will be entirely responsible for obtaining accident and health cover valid for the country in which he intends to stay for the whole period of his stay. In the event that he does not have such cover at the time of registration, ESL will include an appropriate insurance policy covering these risks. For a course in Switzerland, the cost of this cover is CHF 180 per month. For a course in France/Germany, the cost of cover is EUR 39 per month for EU citizens, and EUR 79 per month for non-EU nationals. This insurance will be invoiced with the reservation package and will cover accidents and illness only.

12 - Damage caused by participants / civil liability Prior to arrival at ESL, each participant must take out a policy of insurance to cover any loss/damage which he may cause during the course of his stay. In any event, and even if a participant does not feel that it is appropriate for him to take out such insurance, he will be liable for any losses caused to ESL, its commercial partners and any other third party unless the liability of ESL can be clearly demonstrated.

13 - Obligations of participants Participants are required to attend the course and to arrive on time. They are responsible for choosing a course which is appropriate for their level of capability. Failure to attend the course, or irregular attendance, or any disruption to lessons caused by an individual participant’s attitude will entitle ESL to expel the participant. ESL will not reimburse or pay compensation for any part of the missed course or any additional travel costs incurred.

14 - ClaimsIn the event that a participant wishes to bring a claim, he must notify the head of the centre immediately. Any claim for compensation must be notified in writing to ESL Montreux, and may not arrive more than four weeks after the contractual termination of the language course. After that time, any action taken by the contract partner will be deemed to be null and void.

15 - DisciplineIn the event that a participant is badly behaved, undisciplined, or demonstrates a poor attitude ESL reserves the right to expel him immediately. In that event, ESL will not reimburse or pay compensation for any part of the missed course or any additional travel costs incurred.

16 - Changes affecting prices, dates or servicesUntil such time as a participant receives the confirmation of registration, ESL may change the dates and prices of language courses published on the internet or any other communication tools at any time. Following confirmation of registration between ESL and the participant, ESL may change its programme of services, provided that the changes are minor, unavoidable, based on good faith and do not in any way affect the teaching services. In the event that the “key” services provided by ESL are affected by major changes, participants may withdraw or apply to join a different course of the same value, if ESL is in a position to provide this. ESL must notify participants of any changes immediately and participants must notify ESL as soon as possible after receipt of such notification of their intention to exercise their rights.

17 - Minimum number of participantsIn the event that it is not possible to achieve the minimum number of participants required for a language course (6 persons for a group course), ESL will notify the contract partner at least three weeks prior to the commencement of the course. If ESL is unable to provide a replacement service, ESL will undertake to reimburse all fees paid to date. Under no circumstances will ESL pay compensation for any inconvenience or loss of time. In the event that none of the courses are appropriate for the participant’s level of ability, ESL reserves the right to substitute the group course for private tuition. The number of hours of private tuition will depend on the amount paid by the participant.

18 - Transfer by coachIn the event that it is not possible to achieve the number of participants required to organise transfer by coach (a minimum of 12 persons), ESL reserves the right to cancel the transfer and will notify the participant at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the language course. In that event, ESL will reimburse the full cost of the transfer.

19 - ActivitiesDepending on the weather conditions or other circumstances beyond the control of ESL and its organisation, ESL reserves the right to cancel one or more of the scheduled activities described in the brochure. In that event, ESL undertakes to substitute the cancelled activities with others.

20 - Cancellation of ESL coursesESL reserves the right to cancel a language course for safety reasons as a consequence of a strike, political unrest or for any other extraordinary reason. In that event, ESL undertakes to reimburse all costs relating to the course. ESL reserves the right to retain a certain amount to cover administration costs.

21 - LiabilityESL will assume full responsibility for the language courses offered and undertakes to organise them efficiently in accordance with its knowledge and experience in the sector. Under no circumstances can ESL be held liable for any loss resulting from illness, accident or inconvenience caused by poor service provided by any agent appointed by ESL. Neither will ESL be responsible for the loss of any valuables, personal items, money, etc. unless such losses were due to deliberate negligence on the part of ESL.

22 - Safety and securityESL is authorised to take all reasonable action as required to ensure the well-being and good health of the participants. ESL is also entitled to take all necessary measures to provide a participant with any appropriate medical care in the event of necessity. Any costs arising from such medical attention will be borne by the participant, or his legal representative if he is a minor. A written release/authorisation signed by the legal representative will be required in respect of certain sporting packages where risk is involved. Without such a signed document, ESL reserves the right to refuse to allow the participant to take part in certain sporting activities.

23 - Protection of personal datWithin ESL, personal data is only recorded in the event of a request for information, offers or registration for a language course. In principle, external organisations and individuals do not have access to the ESL database. Personal data is communicated in order to reserve accommodation (host family, hostel or hotel) or in response to a legal demand. In certain cases, ESL may provide such information to competent authorities (for example, to immigration authorities). Personal data is filed and registered at ESL-Montreux. In addition to such data being used to provide advice and information on reservation procedures to the participant, they may be used to provide participants with information about new ESL products.

24 - Promotional material ESL reserves the right to retain and use photographs either taken by or showing a participant for promotional purposes. The same applies to anything produced by the participant during the language course. This right will deemed to have lapsed if the participant or his legal representative specifically revoke this point in writing at the time of registration.

25 - Applicable law and jurisdiction Swiss law will apply exclusively to the contractual relationship between ESL and the participant. Jurisdiction will lie with the courts of Montreux (Switzerland). The general terms and conditions of sale will not, under any circumstances, limit the laws applicable to the contract partner.

1 - Registration and confirmationAll registrations received by ESL Education S.A. (“ESL”) by post, e-mail, fax or telephone will be deemed to be valid. Registration will be confirmed within a maximum of 10 working days following receipt of a valid registration. The contract will be deemed to be finalised as soon as ESL has confirmed the registration, and will then be legally enforceable. Where the registered person is an adult, that person will become a contract partner of ESL. Where the registered person is not an adult, his/her legal representative will become the contract partner of ESL. In that event, the legal representative must sign the contract and give his exact address. The person who is contractually registered to a language course will become a participant, designated as such below. The person who signs the contract (either the person himself or, where the person is a minor, his legal representative) will be identified as a contract partner, designated as such below.

2 - Information supplied at the time of registrationThe contract partner expressly declares that the information provided at the time of registration for a language course is true and accurate. Any inaccurate information or omission may lead to immediate expulsion from the course (for example, if a “complete beginner” overestimates his level of linguistic ability in order to be able to start a course on a date other than the official commencement date for “complete beginners”). In that event, the costs of the course will not be refundable, either in whole or in part.

3 - Registration feeESL will charge the following registration fee for each registration: CHF 110 / EUR 75. These fees are non-refundable. In the event of late registration, from two weeks after commencement of the language course, the participant will be charged an express processing fee of CHF 50 / EUR 35.

4 - Contract variation feeIn the event that a participant wishes the type of course or accommodation conditions to be varied following confirmation of registration by ESL, a variation fee of CHF 80 / EUR 55 will be charged and will be payable with the request for variation. No additional charge will be made if the participant decides to extend his language course at the same centre.

5 - Conditions of paymentFees will become payable immediately on receipt of confirmation of registration as follows:- a deposit of CHF 250 / EUR 170.- the registration fee of CHF 110 / EUR 75 (not included in the cost of the language course).- payment of the premium for the cancellation insurance and/or the [accident/]health insurance (where policies have been taken out). The balance of the total fees must be paid at least four weeks prior to commencement of the language course. In the event that ESL receives a registration less than four weeks prior to commencement of the language course, the full amount must be paid on receipt of the invoice. Neither the course nor the accommodation will be deemed to have been paid for unless the relevant amount has been received into the account details of which will be provided by ESL upon confirmation of registration.

6 - Payment periodThe contract partner will be held liable in the event that the payment periods specified by ESL in the confirmation are not complied with. In such circumstances, ESL reserves the right to refuse entry to the course. No claims will be accepted by ESL.

7 - Proof of paymentParticipants may be asked to provide documentary proof of payment of the full fee for their course and accommodation either before or on commencement of the language course. Failure to do so may mean that entry to both the course and the accommodation will be refused. In the case of late registrations, ESL will ask for proof before sending the pre-arrival documentation.
