What Are Title Funds?

Money, which is controlled by the Federal Government!

Allocated in numerous different places!

Who gets the money?

Well.. It doesn’t grow on trees. We have to work for it!

Title I – Part A

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Legislation encourages students to do well in school!

If the state follows the requirements..

The Federal Government will give the statemoney.

The state will then give money to public education.

So…

Four Components to Title 1- Part A

1. Basic grants to districts with more than 2 % poverty.

2. Concentration grants with more than 15% poverty.

3. Targeted grants with more than 5% poverty.

4. Education, Finance, Incentive grants with more than 5% poverty.

Title I – Part A Funds Provide: Disadvantaged children who are

failing in school additional programming, tutoring, computers, etc.. to enhance their academic experience and ability.

Can extend learning time for students.

Improved basic programming.

HOW CAN SCHOOL DISTRICTS USE THIS MONEY??

What the school must provide..

Instructional Strategies

o Detailed information about what is provided in each academic area.

o Strategies for student achievement.o Strategic blend of strategies used during

in-class instructions.o Additional Instructional time.

And…

• An assurance statement that all Title 1, Part A paraprofessionals meet the No Child Left Behind requirements.

• An assurance statement that all teachers are highly qualified.

• Professional development or part of the school improvement plan.

• Parent Involvement in school improvement.

And…

• Coordination of programs such as, violence prevention, nutrition, adult education, housing, job training, etc..

• Vocational training.

• Student Progress

• A description of coordination and integration of Federal, State and Local Programs.

If we use Title 1- Part A Funds appropriately, our

disadvantaged students will have more opportunities leading to a more productive academic

experience.
