FUNDAMENTALS - from the Ministry......

Students must be central in the judgements and decisions about their learning. Conversations with students about their strengths and goals as learners will be important. When making judgements about competency, different types of evidence should be collected. More than one person is involved in making judgements.

Questioning: Numeracy and Statistics

Term One: Statistical Investigation. Aim: Our students developing the ability to think creatively, critically, strategically and logically. Two Components we are trialling....The concept is that the Rubric and the

Learning Journal work together to support each other.Rubric: Level One - Level Four. Can be used both formatively and summatively. Indicator Sheet. http://lisapaap.weebly.comLearning Journal - over time the students will create a rich collection of personal stories about themselves and their maths journey, and their ability to question appropriately. Used formatively.

So what will this journal look like....

Students will talk about how they solve math problems....Questioning - how are they going with different types of questions. Can they come up with a question for the statistics investigation? Questioning - are they contributing in problem solving time? Are they able to provide a problem for the class? Can they brainstorm these on the computer....Students will record their musings, wonderings...Students may include - pic’s, voice, video, use of Web 2.0 tools

Maths and Writing links....Writing across the curriculum: The learning journal will be a coherent series of entries of the student as a reflective learner. All parts of the learning journal will bear a clear relationship to each other and to purpose: reflecting on the maths learning/questioning. When you (the teacher) look at the ‘journal’ you will be able to understand how the student made the judgements and the evidence they have used. National Standards reporting - writing/maths

RubricConsideration when using the rubric....Rubrics typically differentiate between levels of performance at one moment in time and are based on one source of evidence. Only one aspect of a task can be manageably assessed.Contexts are not usually taken into account (very general)Rubrics - students are judged by othersYou have never “achieved” a competency we are all still on a journey. Exciting Initiatives...As we move towards a Learning Management System....ICT Integration - Michelle and Kate are also working in Weebly to create a class Intranet. This is similar to the WIKI Michelle had last year and Kate’s Weebly. This year the students will be have their own spaces to create their learning journals - shifting the control of the space to not only the teacher but also the student.Using the computer offers more student autonomy and student choice in learning and assessment, in the choice of content, and the choice of ways of presenting.Rachel - focussing on questioning in numeracy and statistics using the learning journal and rubric to support the learningWould you like to access the Rubrics, come on board?
