Penthesilea , Amazonian queen, the daughter of Ares and Otrera] and the sister of Hippolyta, Antiope and Melanippe

Penthesilea kills Hippolyta with a spear when they are hunting deer; this accident causes Penthesilea so much grief that she wishes only to die, but, as a warrior and an Amazon, she has to do so honorably in battle. She therefore is easily convinced to join in the Trojan War, fighting on the side of Troy's defenders.

She arrives with twelve companions and promised the Trojans that she would kill Achilles. On her first, and only, day of fighting, Penthesilea kills many men and clashes with Telamonian Ajax, although there is no clear victory, she defeates him .

Achilles turns to war area and sees her beauty and falls in love , and gets so sad.

Penthesilea arrives in Troy at the start of Posthomerica the night before. The fighting is due to recommence for the first time after Hector's death and funeral. She comes to Troy for two reasons: firstly, to prove to others that her people, the Amazons, are great warriors and can share the hardships of war and, secondly, to appease the Gods after she accidentally kills her sister, Hippolyta, while hunting.

As Penthesilea is wearing shiny armor and shield shaped in sickle , she is like a leader of Troy’s not Amazons. By the help of Amazons, Greeks are defeated .
