• Leonardo Di Vinci painted Mona Lisa. Her face is really
famous all over the world.

• The Leaning Tower of Pisa was built over 800 years ago
and started to lean when it was being built and leans 1mm
more every year. People STILL climb it every day!!
• The Colosseum was built by Romans for gladiators to
fight each other and sometimes for men to fight wild
animals, like tigers.
Traditions/Cool Stuff
The Tarantella is an old Italian folk dance.
Some people still do the dance at festivals and sometimes
with friends.
In Venice, Italy people can ride through town in water canals
on boats called gondolas instead of cars on streets. So cool!
Italy has everything. Sunny beaches to swim at AND
scary volcanoes like one called Stromboli. It is the most
active volcano on earth!!
Language in Italy
In Italy they speak mostly Italian.
Some people speak German or French because those countries
are close.
Italians use the same alphabet as us but they say it different
ways.
Italian words use accent marks on some letters so you say
them a little different.
My family does not speak Italian
but I liked learning
new words.

PeopleLithuanians are considered to be shy people… if you compliment a Lithuanian women’s dress, she most probably will say that the dress is old or similar. Or if you say ačiū “thank you” to somebody, his/her answer most probably will be - nėra už ką -“not at all”

Spanish Food - La Comida Española • Tapas (unas tapas) - small portions of food you eat in a bar (tapar means 'to
cover' and that's where the term tapas comes from as people used the small plate on which the snack is served to cover their drink so that flies couldn’t get in!)
• Spanish omelette (la tortilla) - This is not like our egg omelettes, but thick and made with potatoes and onion
• Bread with tomato (el pan con tomate) – bread rubbed with garlic & tomato and drizzled with olive oil
• Nougat (el turrón) - There are two main types: turrón de Jijona - soft nougat and turrón de Alicante - hard nougat with whole nuts
• Cold soup (el gazpacho) - made of tomato, garlic, bread and olive oil. It is typical of Andalucia in the south of Spain where it gets very hot in the summer
• La paella – the famous Spanish rice dish!
• Olives (las aceitunas)
• Dry cured mountain ham (el jamón serrano) - You often see the legs hung from the ceiling in bars & delis

• Football ('el fútbol) is the most popular sport in Spain. Spain won the Football World Cup in 2010

• The 1992 Summer Olympic Games were held in Barcelona
• Between March and October many Spaniards go to an arena to watch a bullfight (una corrida de toros). The earliest recorded Spanish bullfights took place in the 11th century
