CHOOSING OUR LOCATIONS

• When choosing locations, we decided that for a lot of the shots the best choice would be to film them somewhere local, as it makes it easier for us to access, meaning money is saved on transport. The city centre of York also has all of the different types of locations we were looking for, so it seemed silly to look further afield when everything we wanted was local to us.

• We decided to go on a group locations tour to work out where we would like to film our video. We took shots of six different locations in the end, all of which we’d like to use in some sort of way throughout our video.

BYRON

• Right from the start, we were very interested in using this as a location four one of our shots. The tinted colour of the window creates a very intimate feel, meaning we could add a lot of emotion to the shot of two people sat down eating at a table in the restaurant.

CONEY ST.

• This is one of York’s most popular and busy shopping streets so it would of course create a very natural scene of the character(s) having a nice day out and walking together.

COPPERGATE

• Coppergate is also a popular shopping area in York. We noticed there was a large round feature in the middle of the centre which could come some good if we wanted to film a shot of two people looking across at each other or something similar.

MUSEUM GARDENS

• The Museum Gardens are a popular tourist attraction in York and have a nice family feel. We felt that these would be a great location for a shot where perhaps a character was depressed and wanted to go for a walk alone or even where the two characters were walking together happily. We could play with the lighting here to change the mood.

PARLIAMENT ST.

• Parliament St. is similar to Coney St. in that they are both popular York shopping streets. The likelihood is we will only use one of these but it’s good for us to see them both to compare before we make a final decision.

YORK LIBRARY

• The library is a location that we would definitely like to use to shoot a recognised development in the protagonist’s intellectual and mental development. It is also a York landmark so would be recognisable for viewers that lived close.
