Graphic Styles

Abstract but fast paced (James Bond Casino Royale) associated with the genre of action.

Cartoon style with drawings (Juno) allows us to focus on the main protagonist. Many camera angles.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

How does it establish theme and genre?

Gun shots and simplistic imagery, however something on screen is always moving. The genre is not entirely clear from the first moments but crime and thriller appear to be the main focus. The most evident theme is Film Noir and the music is quiet and fits with the pace of the graphics.

The imagery made me think of detective and crime because it highlighted death without it being violent and full of action. The figures are undistinguishable and so raises audience suspicion.

The titles moved in with the graphics and the music was very indicative of the genre.

How does it establish narrative?

From the titles, they suggest Femme Fatale and the story was shown in the form of many different graphics. Film Noir usually has this element to it.

Catch Me If You Can

Simplistic blue, white, black and yellow colours.

Suspenseful music arouses suspicion as it builds.

Silhouetted figures also make the identity unknown, therefore making us feel on edge.

A lot is happening and the genre is indicated to have elements of detective as the guy was shown following another and the music links to it as it is indicative of the narrative and genre and is almost like a cat and mouse game.
