Improvements we have made

Since the preliminary task we have made a lot of improvements to our filming and editing style, one of these improvements was made to our continuity in editing, there were multiple occasions in the preliminary task where the clips were not quite blended together properly, so it was as if the characters had taken a step back then continued, one example of this is when the two characters were about to push the door open, in the shot from the first camera they are starting to push the door open, whereas in the next shot neither of them has their hand on the door yet.

We have also improved in the area of music, in our preliminary task we picked music because we thought it sounded good, however it did not fit in with the style of the video, whereas in our opening sequence we spent quite a while choosing the music based on what fitted in with the video, as opposed to what we thought sounded cool.

Another change was our post-production effects, in our preliminary we didn’t use any editing effects whatsoever, as a result, our video looked somewhat amateur and very poor quality-wise, our opening sequence, on the other hand, involved a lot of post-production editing effects, including altering the colours to make the movie look better, the pale effects for the flashback – and the implementation of the flashback in the video – and the gunshot effect, all of which made the opening sequence look a lot more professional and interesting.

There were other changes involving sound, looking back at the opening sequence, it is obvious that all we did was take the footage, splice it into a sequence and add music, much unlike the opening sequence in which we carefully thought out what to add, including voiceovers for a character monologue, other voiceovers to add effect and sounds such as the gate opening and the gunshot effect, which gives the film verisimilitude, whilst making it realistic and interesting.

We also did not use any form of costumes in our preliminary, as mentioned in the previous evaluation questions, we carefully thought out all aspects of the costuming in order to create a desired concept of clearly defined characters.

Overall, I think we have come a long way since our preliminary task, and there have been a lot of great improvements which have resulted in a very good end product.
