We went on a visit to Subramaniapuram for seeing the life in slum.

We observed the life style of people over there.

Their conditions was also observed by us.

The people belonging to the same community live over there.

Their main occupations are scavenging and cobbling.

We met a very old man named Solaimuthu ,he stated that he is living there for more than 35 years.

More than 575 families are living in this slum area.

More than two or three families share a house.

A Community Hall constructed to facilitate the social gathering .

Two balwadis inside the slum are available for the nutritional betterment of children.

A primary and a higher secondary school within the vicinity

A Government health center for TB patients living at that area.

The total population of Subramaniapuram is around 6000 and in that 2000 people living in the slum.

There are two slum areas and the charts below shows the population of the slums.

Unclean and congested streets. Open drainage running all over the streets

of Subramaniapuram.

Only two water supply for the whole area.

More than 30 houses do not have power supply.

Land owning certificate is not provided for many houses ,but they have receipt.

There is a NGO in Subramaniapuram named RAGAVENDRA TRUST which is running for the development and to help the people of the slum.

Social workers play a major role in developing the huts into houses.

We trainees were welcomed with smile by the area people.

They treated us as their family members.

They gave beverage's for our refreshment.

Knowing that students from social sciences college came for slum visit, mayor and other ward members came to support us.

The children belonging to the slum gathered together and guided us , played and giggled.

It was an entirely different experience going into a slum.

All the people are kind hearted, we experienced innocent care and love from them.

We Thank them We thank our Supervisor Prof. S.Rengasamy for suggesting us to visit this slum
