Here we have an magazine advertisement for Ed sheeran’s ‘+’ album. By looking at this advertisement, I can see that there is a lot of synergy between this advertisement and the album cover, and the digipak. (on the right)The colours used and the images are all the same, we can see that the synergy of orange, white and black really flows through the advertisement, the text, the Digipak and the CD itself. By keeping the image and the structure of the advertisement the same this makes the consumer understand that these are linked and may look for more products in the similar manner. The advertisement includes the album’s current position on the UK charts, which is #1 , this may make the reader become more interested in it since it has a good position on the charts meaning lots of people would’ve listened to this musicThe advertisement also includes a link to the official website, which would help the reader know where they can find more information on and may decide to check it out later on.

The image in the digipak and the advertisement are the same, this should help indicate who the artist is since they may be familiar with his face instead of his name, in this case it could help them realise what the artists name might be and then become more interested.

This is an magazine advertisement for Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’ album. The theme of this advertisement is the same one as the one in her album cover/ digipak, (on the right). This tells us that the two products have synergy between them therefore, will make it easier for the reader to find the album and purchase it. By looking at the poster, the advertisement looks like it appeals to people that enjoy rock music, or something more mature sounding pop, the target audience might be 16-17+. Also the theme of black and white supports the statement of her trying to achieve more ‘dark’ look, it makes the artist seem more mysterious compared to her last album ‘LOUD’s Advertisement (bottom right), which was all colourful and red. She is also wearing a rose on her ‘LOUD’ advertisement where as , in ‘Rated R’ she is wearing all black with metal. Therefore, shows us that she is trying to aim at more mature audience this time then the last. However, the advertisement does include the colour red in the text below that state the two songs, which indicates that these songs must be something recognisable for the readers and therefore might appeal to them. Furthermore, it also shows synergy between ‘LOUD’ and ‘Rated R’ as the colour red is used mainly in ‘LOUD’ therefore, could connatate that there might be a hint of more pop sound then she is indicating.

Overall, I will try to use some of these points for my magazine advertisement for my music video. I will like to make sure that it stands out and is able to capture the theme of the music video well, and what the narrative might be.I will also use colours that would fit in with my music video and suggest to the reader about what type of music video would be and what type of music the digipak will include. I will also try to show a lot of synergy like, with Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ and Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’, so it is easier for the consumers to find the products easily and understand what is that I am trying to appeal them with. I will make the advertisement easy to understand just like these advertisements, by using simple understandable texts and not including lots of it and only including the important parts like a link or title of hit songs to promote the album well.
