Open Educational Resources Project

• In February 2010, The Maine Department of Education (MDOE) awarded the Maine Support Network (MSN: a division of the newly formed Syntiro) multiple grants funded through Title IID Enhancing Education through Technology - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Competitive Grant monies.

These grants were designed to support the MDOE in achieving the following goals:

1. Enhance the awareness of Open Educational Resources (OER).

2. Identify existing OER.3. Foster the creation or development of

content-specific asynchronous and synchronous communities. Our ultimate goal is to build the capacity of Maine educators to use technology, and engaging teaching and learning strategies, to prepare students for college, career, and meaningful lives in their communities

• Each team identified OER criteria for quality and alignment to Maine Learning Standards to support their collection and selection of high quality OER for Maine educators.

• The teams also began to note the areas where quality OER were lacking and need to be developed.

• These resources are currently posted on Delicious.

The Work Continues…• Content Teams continue to work with the

Maine Department of Education to put these sites in a new comprehensive, educational repository called Gooru

• VPA team members got a sneak peak at this site set to launch end of June. We were blown away with the depth of this non-profit educational database and search engine.

• You can search for subjects, topics, content, etc. and using google technology it will give you a list of possible sites, teacher developed classplans, links to interactive websites and videos, online textbooks, tests, quizzes, and recorded teacher demonstrations. AMAZING!

• State of Maine is being recognized Nationally for their OER work and collaboration with the Gooru team
