• Title

Importance of Titles
• Allows end user to easily search results in
the portal
• Provided by using dc:title or dc:terms
alternative or taken from the dc:description
• Needs to be meaningful
• No title, less click through
Importance of Pictures
• Allows end user to easily identify objects
• Creates a connection with the object
• Supplied by europeana:object (thumbnail),
europeana:isShownBy (lightbox/or thumbnail when
explicitly stated)
• EDM allows for multiple web-resources and images
(supplied with rdf:about in the contextual class)
• Increases click through rate and re-use of digital
object
Importance of Description
• Allows end user to identify importance of the
object
• Ideally meaningful short title plus good
description
• Supplied by dc:description (mandatory if dc:title
is not supplied or meaningful)
• Description compliments any other metadata
supplied
Digital Object and Source
• Europeana contains metadata, it is not a content
repository it facilitates access but directs
outwards
• A valid isShownAt or isShownBy is a mandatory
element in submitted metadata
• Allows the end user to get greater information
and/or context on the object
Attribution and Rights Labeling

digital object
