Definitions
VOLUME
Is the measure of an object´s ability to hold a substance like a solid, a liquid,or a gas.
CAPACITY
Capacity is the space taken up by the object itself.
Volume CapacityThe volume of a solid is the amount of space it occupies.
Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold when it is full.
volume is the space taken up by the object itself.
capacity refers to the ability of something to hold, receive or absorb.
If the length, width, and height of this three-dimensional container, measures 5 cm, 10 cm, and 20 cm respectively, the volume is 5 cm × 10 cm × 20 cm = 1000 cm3.By definition, 1000 cm3 = 1 liter.1 milliliter is grossly the dimension of a container with length, width, and height of 1 cm, 1 cm, and 1 cm respectively since 1 cm × 1 cm × 1 cm = 1 cm3.
Kilo is prefix which refers to a multiplication by 1000, so 1 kiloliter = 1 liter × 1000 = 1000 liters1 kiloliter is approximately the capacity of a king-size water bed. As you may have noticed, kiloliters are used to measure huge quantity.
Items that may require millimeters to measure them :A glass of waterA one scoop ice creamA bottle of perfumeItems that may require kiloliters to measure them:Amount of oil or gas heat in your tankAnnual milk productionAmount of water in swimming pool
Items that may require liters to measure them:Amount of water consumed in a day by a human beingAmount of milk a cow will give per day

This is capacity because this is a liquid and it is measured in ml and capacity is the amount of substance a container can hold.
This is capacity because shampoo is a thick liquid and ml is the measure we use for capacity.
This is capacity because soda is a liquid and it is measured in liters.

DISCOVERING VOLUME MEASURMENTS
Savannah, Connor, Ethan and Morgan want to make ice cream. They each have a different amount of milk (5-7-2 and 6 quarts) and a different amount of Sugar (5-14-13 and 9 cups). One batch of ice cream requires 4 cups of Milk and 3 cups of sugar.
1. If Savannah had 8 times as much milk, Savannah would have 10 gallons of milk.
2. The person, who has nine cups of sugar, has 11 less cups of sugar than cups of milk.
3. The person, who has 13 cups of sugar, has 5 more cups of sugar than cups of milk.
4. If Connor have 7 times as much milk, Connor would have 12 gallons and 1 quart of milk.
5. If Morgan have 4 more cups of sugar, Morgan would have a total of 9 pints of sugar.
6. Savannah can make at least 2 batches of ice cream.7. If Ethan had 5 times as much milk, Ethan would have 2 gallons and 2
quarts of milk.
1. True because Savannah has 5 quarts of milk:
5 x 8 = 40 quarts40 quarts = 10 gallons(4 quarts = 1 gallon)
2. Morgan has 9 cups of sugar and 6 quarts of milk. True 20 minus 11 is 9
1 quart = 4 cups6 quarts = 20 cups
3. Ethan has 2 quarts of milk and 13 cups of sugarTrue, the difference between 8 and 3 is 5 and in 13 and 8 as
well.
2 quarts = 8 cups13 cups = 3 quarts
ANSWERS
4. False, because 4 x 3 is not 48
1 gallon = 4 quarts12 gallons = 48 and 1 quart
5. False, because 13 cups are 6 ½ pints not 9 pints.
2 cups = 1 pint1 cup = ½ pint13 cups= 6 ½ pints
6. False, Savannah can make 1 batch of ice-cream but she doesn’t have enough sugar
7. True: 1 gallon = 4 quarts2 gallons = 8 quarts2 quarts of milk x 5 = 10 quarts 10 quarts = 2 gallons and 2 quarts
