Introduction

Our survey is looking forward to one of the common chronic disease in Malaysia. The disease that we had chosen for our survey is asthma. Asthma is quite common all around the world. We believed that all of us knows at least one asthma patient around us. What is asthma? Asthma is a lung airways disease with periodic symptoms and often with nocturnal attacks and chronic inflammation of the bronchial tubes that causes swelling and narrowing of the airways. The bronchial narrowing is usually partially reversible with treatments. At the same time, it also damage our respiration system and results with difficulty breathing. Long term of asthma will cause asthma attack that will probably bring to death.

Asthma may be broadly grouped into allergic asthma and non-allergic asthma. Some asthmatics may have both types. In Malaysia about 80 to 90% are allergic asthma mostly noted in children and young adults, and 20% are non-allergic asthma that is frequently found in middle-aged and elderly individuals. The non-allergic asthma develops spontaneously during adult life. Several features can distinguish the two types of asthma. In allergic asthma, the total and specific antibody levels are raised. The onset of symptoms is immediate, and the clinical course is mild. In contrast, in non-allergic asthma, antibody levels are within normal range, the onset of symptoms is delayed, and the clinical course is severe. Moreover, non-allergic asthma occurs more commonly in females, and is frequently associated with aspirin sensitivity and presence of nasal polyps.

Around half of the 300 million global estimates of asthmatic population live in Asia. In Malaysia, there are around twenty thousands of people suffer from asthma. And the death rate of caused by asthma attack had increased years to years which is above five percent of . To prevent the increasing of death rate, a lot of medications are invented to control the number of people suffer from asthma disease.

For our assignment, we are required to find out that either males or females know more about asthma disease by carry out a survey in Taylor’s University. We provided questions about asthma with a total of 15 questions. All the questions is along with the answer that we ad research. The results of all the survey forms that we collected back, have to be analyzed and made into a report and an A2 to show clearly about the results of our survey.

4

Objective

The main objective of this project is to conduct a survey to investigate the understanding level of for male and female students of Taylor’s University. Through the survey, we need to collect data and

organize statistical data. From the data collected, we need to analyze the data and draw conclusion from the data. Besides, we need to understand and apply mathematical principles involved.

To analyse the statistical data based on the survey forms collected and draw conclusion from the data.

To solve problems that involves various mathematical principles.

To understand and apply mathematical principles involved.

5

MethodologyWe are targeting 250 of students of Taylor’s University for our survey. So, we decided to

separated them into 125 for males and 125 for females. Each of our members are responsible to give out 50 survey forms to be fully filled up.To do survey with students, the best place is in the library. So, we walked around the whole library which is located at Block C. We approached every students in library, but some of them rejected to join our survey. Some of the students. We waited every students to finish all the questions with patience. Before giving out the forms, we told them about the purpose of our survey and explain to them so that they can answer all the questions seriously.

We done our survey after 5 days and started to analyze those survey forms.

One of the student is filling the forms. One of our members is waiting for students to done his survey form.

One of our members is collecting back One of our members is asking a

the survey form. students to answer the form.

6

One of our members is waiting to

collect the form back. From the

student.

After done with our 250 survey forms, we started to do the analyze all of them. Every answers that the students answered. Jobs are divided equally among all members. Report was done by three of our members and the A2 presentation board was done by another two members.

Then, we managed to find out the numbers of answer that chosen by the students. We also find out the percentage of the answered chosen by students. Then, we used the data that we had found to form out a statistic report which show clearly either male or female get more correct answer from this survey.

As a conclusion, female students of Taylor’s University are more understand than male students in Taylor’s University about Asthma disease. This can be prove on the result shown above.

All male and female students answer all the question in the survey forms. Though, there are more females answer correctly compare to male as stated in the table above.

The total mark of male students is 8.493 out of 15. The total mark of female students is 9.552 out of 15. This statement shows that female get more correct answers than male. It can also prove that female students are more understand about Asthma disease. Although the marks between male and female students are not big. However, as we refer to percentage, the differences become a bigger amount.
