Meeting the Branding of
BBC Introducing and BBC films
“BBC Introducing is the brand for new music programmes across
the BBC radio stations, showcasing unsigned, self signed and
other emerging musical talent primarily from the UK.”
BBC introducing is concerned with allowing new artists the
opportunity to break into mainstream music. Although BBC
introducing don’t directly deal with films their involvement with
new artists was paramount to our production. BBC introducing
supported Jaws one of the artists we interviewed.
The initial concept behind BBC introducing is new music discovery. BBC introducing was set up by a former Head of Live music at Radio 1. The concept was to share and champion local bands, within our production we used 2 local artists Mark and Jersey Budd. We filmed all artists in locations within Leicester, further linking with BBC introducing and showcasing the local music scene.
BBC introducing has hosted at Glastonbury festival every year since 2007, it has stages at Reading and Leeds festivals and Radio 1’s Big weekend.
BBC introducing has worked with artists and bands featuring artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jake Bugg, The ting tings and Florence and the machine amongst others.
The influence of BBC introducing is know by all artists within the industry, Jaws a band who feature within our production have performed on the BBC introducing stage at Reading and Leeds. This was critical for the bands exposure.
It was important that we contacted BBC introducing artists when
researching as we felt that there was a better chance of gaining
their contact as they are looking to maximise exposure.
Within our Film production we looked to ask questions about
artists experiences with BBC introducing. BBC introducing is
concerned with the quality of the music and not concerned by the
artists image, this is represented through our choice of location
which we choose not to film in a phoot-studio with a backdrop.
Out chosen locations were natural and were you would expect to
see the artists.
The target audience for BBC introducing isn't categorised
however we can assume that it is aimed at the artists target
audience and then appealing to a wider secondary audience of
radio listeners.
BBC films is the feature film making element of the BBC, co-
producing some of the most successful British films of recent
years.
Including : Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, Quartet, Salmon Fishing
in the Yemen, My Week with Marilyn, Jane Eyre, In the Loop, An
Education, StreetDance 3D, Fish Tank, Nativity!, Iris, Notes on a
Scandal and Billy Elliot.
BBC films co-produces around 8 films a year, working in
partnership with major UK and International distributors.
