DESCRIPTION
This is the application for the Fall Mesa Entrepreneurial Artist program, for artists who want to learn more about how to earn a living from their art. Download the application to see the topics and class schedule. Eligible candidates: Creative artists living or working in Mesa in any medium: dance, media, music, theatre, visual arts, interdisciplinary. Candidates living outside Mesa will be considered if space is available. Benefits: At the completion of this 8-session program you will understand who your best customers are and how best to find and talk to them. You will understand how much work you need to sell to make a living, and which sales outlets will be best for you. You’ll also have an opportunity to network with other working artists, Mesa Arts Center managers, gallery owners, professional advisors (attorneys and CPAs), and other people who can help you advance your artistic career. Cost: The cost of the program is being underwritten by a grant from Chase Bank. Candidates accepted to the program will be charged a $25.00 materials fee to cover the required book. Timeline for Fall 2013 Artist as Entrepreneur Program
This program is limited to 15 artists.
Applications due to NEDCO: September 13th, 2013
Cohort chosen and individuals notified by email: September 17th, 2013
Class Schedule:
Oct 1st Class 1: Speed networking, purpose of your art career and mission
Oct 8th
Class 2: All the ways you can earn money as an artist (Public Art, Facebook, websites, teaching, arts admin, curators of corporate art, grants, gallery, art fairs and festivals, and what to do to sell in each place. Field trip to MAC gallery and artist co-op.
Oct 15th Class 3: Who are your customers? What is the best way to find and talk to them?
Oct 22st Class 4: Hands-on tools (selling on Facebook, how to do a website), plus all the AZ Commission on the Arts and the MAC resources.
Oct 28th Class 7: Budget and Cash flow
Nov 1st Class 6: Field trip to Roosevelt Row for 1st Friday in Nov
Nov 5th Class 7: Legal issues, intellectual property, accounting, company business structures, sales tax payment, how to register your trade name, where to apply for an LLC
Nov 12th Class 8: present your work/marketing plan to panel
NOTE: There are two sessions the week of October 28th; one on Tuesday, one on Friday (field trip to Roosevelt Row Galleries)
