• Sam is just back from Yale, and he’s wearing a uniform of the army, but Father doesn’t greet him kindly and has a big debate with him.

• Chapter 1

• Tim tells Sam to tell him everything about the war, and Sam say that he had joined the Rebel side. • When Tim wakes

up from the sound of his brother and Father fighting, he soon hears Father crying of worries.

• After he prayed, Tom Warrups the indian tells him that Sam is in his hut.

• The next day Tim goes to the church and prays to get rid of thoughts about Sam.

• Tim sees Sam and his girlfriend Betsy Read in his hut, and they tell Tim to secretly listen to conversations in the tanvern.

• Tim thought a war would bring a big disaster, but it didn’t.

• While Sam is gone, Tim improves on his abilities on arithmetics.

• One day Betsy pulls Tim along and gives him a sign saying that Sam is back.

• Tim finds troops marching while he thinks of how he can get an excuse to get away.

• He realizes Mr. and Mrs. Meeker is in danger, and goes looking out for SAm for the gun.

• He gets the gun from Sam after arguing, and saves Father, and herealizes Sam and tells him to come back.

• Food and Money is getting scarce because of the war.

• One day, Mr. Heron comes along and tells them that everyone should risk their lives for the war, but father tells Tim to stay away.

Chapter 5

• Tim envies Sam’s braveness and lies to Mr. Meeker that he is going to fish with his friend.

• To deliver Mr. Heron’s errands, he lies to his father again that he’s going fishing all day.

• He runs into Betsy, and Betsy tries to stop Tim from delivering the letter.

• They get into the fight physically, and eventually Betsy wins and takes the note from him that says “If this message is received, it proves that the messenger is reliable.”

• Tim tries to avoid Mr. Heron after he failed to errand things for him, and things went normal like usual again.

Chapter 7

• Father takes Tim with him to the his annual trip to Verplancks Point.

• They meet the cowboys who hit Mr. Meeker with their rifle, but eventually, this loyalist stops by to help him.

• Tim and Mr. Meeker meet their cousins and talk about the war.

Chapter 8

• The next day Tim and his father arrives at the Verplancks point and rests in a tavern.

• They wake up the next morning, and the snowstorm makes them hard to go forward.

• Since there are a lot of snow, Father decides to check if the road is safe, but he doesn’t come back.

Chapter 9

• Tim is worried about Mr. Meeker, and follows the track, but realizes that Father has been chased by the cowboys.

• He knows that it will be dangerous if he gets closer, and Tim uses his brains to chase the cowboys away, and returns home.

• Tim and mother has to work, and Mother tells him not to worry because he’s going to come back.

Chapter 10

• After time passed, one day, there was the sound of troops coming to their village.

• Tim runs two miles through the woods, and eventually sees Ned’s head flying in the air sliced.

• A messenger says that the troop which Sam is in, will come to Reddings because of the British.

Chapter 11

• The troop comes, and he asks for Sam. Tim is pulled over and meets Sam.

• Tim brings Sam food, and tells Mrs. Meeker that he is here.

• Tim and his mother realizes that Mr. Meeker has died of prison in ship, and his last words were that he loves his family and has forgiven Sam.

Chapter 12

• Tim’s family is suffering from rising prices of things and tries to earn money from the cows.

• Sam returns and realizes cows are missing, and goes searching for it. He gets captured by two cattle- thieves.

• Tim tells mother the news and goes to Colonel Parsons to prove Sam is innocent.

Chapter 13

• Everyone in the family is expecting a bad judge for Sam, since a lot of them are unfair.

• Sam and Tim is hopeless, and tries to persuade the guards and the judge.

• The General refuses to consider Sam’s case, and Tim cries and he is angry.

Chapter 14

• Tim thinks of killing the sleeping guards and releasing the prisoners, but he wakes , and shoots him. Tim cries for Sam.

• Tim attends the execution, and the soldiers are about to shoot him, but Tim cries out, but one of the soldiers has already shot him.
