The difference in temperature between the twoPlots was down to the lavender oval being more sheltered and therefore held more heat.For the same reasons the wind was lower in the lavender oval.There was no rain therefore they where the same. I think if it had rain that the lavender oval would have less rain the middle of the garden because it was sheltered by the plants.The middle of the garden had a better growth point because there was nothing in the way.Again the middle of the garden was more in view of the sun than the lavender oval. Potted Plant The potted plant is a micro climate. It is more

exposed to the elements than other micro climates. It gets lots of sun and rain as it is out in the open with no shade or shelter. It keeps damp as the pot contains the rain water and only seeps out of the bottom of the pot. The pot is against a wall so it is not too exposed to the wind. It is warmer in the pot than in other parts of the garden as it is more compact.

Under Rocks There are a group of rocks beneath a Weeping

Willow tree in the garden. Under the rocks it is very wet and dark. It attracts lots of wildlife such as Woodlice. It is shaded under the tree so there is little sun or wind but it does soak up the rain. It is warmer under the rocks.

The Pear Tree The pear tree is a micro climate, It is in an open

part of the garden and is exposed to the sun, rain and wind. There are no walls or fences to shelter the tree from the elements. It is cold and wet at the base of the tree and in the winter when the leaves fall off, it is even more exposed.

hedges on all sides no more than 5 foot high, so there is nothing much to stop the wind, It has sun all day; there are no overhanging trees to stop any rainfall. By

• Area 2 fountain.• Temperature: 16°c• Wind: below force one.• Rainfall: 20mm• Fountain is surrounded by shrubs

with large overhanging trees. It has very little sun and is in the shade most of the day, therefore there is very little wind effect in this area, and it rained very hard on the day, so the trees didn’t have much effect in stopping the rain. It is a very sheltered area.By

• Area 3 the ditch. • Temperature: 17°c• Wind: force 6• Rainfall: 20mm• The ditch is at the back of the garden

facing east. It is a very open area with a large farmer’s field beyond it, There are no hedges or trees and is in the sun all day, when it is windy due the exposed area there is nothing to stop the wind. When the field gets wet in winter the rain water will run off the field and into the ditch.

I looked at three different parts of my garden by William

• This part of the garden is near the house. Because the garden slopes down the ground is wetter here. The temperature was 1 degree higher than at the top of our garden and it was less windy too.

• This part of the garden is in the middle and it was not as windy as the first part as it is shaded by bamboo plants.

• This part of the garden is at the top, further away from the house. Our garden is on a slope so this part of the garden is level with our upstairs windows. It is very open so was windier than the bottom and was 1 degree colder. The ground is drier here so the plants need more help to survive.
